Kudos to Jim Thomsen on that wonderful and soulful gift to Audrey.

Not a lot of Dolt gear made it north to tell the truth as there was the S. Cal gang and the N. Cal group and Dolt certainly was part of the Southern clan.

I would imagine it was the Nose Route and the involvement from the north of Harding, Steck, Reed, Merry and Calderwood which added spice to the interaction of north and south for the first time. Powell and Dolt made up the Southern group.

There just weren't that many climber back then. Period.

Yes, many of us worked at the "Hut." Steck, Roper, Pratt, Marks, Swanson, Foott, and onward. Steck was pretty good at tolerating the seasonal riffraff of the era.

I worked first as a packer, circa 1959-62 ish, for Swanson who ran the mail order and at the same time Marks was head of manufacturing and R&D. Rudolph was not as gregarious as Steck so we usually deferred to or got read the riot act from Steck when things ran afoul.

Fun times indeed.

Here are some shots from Marks's 80th, about 4 years ago.

Hi Jim,

Your package arrived today as the muppet and me were decorating our first full-size Christmas tree -- synchronicity.

Time stopped the moment I held the book in my hands.

The climbing community never ceases to amaze me. Jim, your act of kindness filled my heart with happiness today. That was incredibly thoughtful of you.

If I didn't know tinkering was genetic, I might wonder if this was the beginning... :D

The Dolt Doll strikes again!
Monee shot, Odd!

Still enjoying the Penzey's, by the by.

And Guido, if that's the XC coach Dave Beck, he's in good company (aside from Al Steck).
My buddy Mathis, once among the skinniest skinny skiers, has a gut just like that!

Here's a photo that Bonnie Kamps posted on her Facebook page a while back that I've been meaning to post.

Dang every time I read the first post it puts me into tears.

Audrey - I am putting together a Dolt slide/marty show for the Arizona Mountaineering Club for October. I will be playing the Dolt.

Do you have a recent photo of you and the Muppet?
