Here's my mom who traveled as crew to China, the Phillipines and Singapore on a freighter ship in the late 1940's. She's sweet as hell and tough as heaven:
I am going to fall from a tree and land in a bevy of desert women.

DMT
ps. leggs I broke my first bone, falling from a tree.
HA!!! (you wish!!!)
Promises promises. It looks like I'll have to go back to California and pay YOU a visit! :)
I almost broke my back climbing up a tree during the Blue Moon over the summer... THAT was scary. No problem getting up it, barefoot... and NO problem falling right out of it. The bruise on my butt was ridiculous.
It brings back memories from days gone by. There were a lot of pain and scratches involved in tree climbing! Especially if you had to shimmy up. When I was just a tot, I'd head up the longleaf pines, up to where the branches were, and look down upon the house and woods. When the breeze would blow the tree would sway, and make for a pretty exciting time in the crow's nest.
There was an art to it, too, selecting a route and techniques, and knowing which branches were good and just how much you could rely upon the others.
Rock climbing followed easily and naturally from it, but there was no rock where I was young, barely even the occasional boulder. Lots of wonderful trees, though.
Come to think of it, everything was a free solo. I'd forgotten all that entailed!
Unlike the rock, the trees were alive - constantly changing, flowering.
And they were filled with birds and squirrels, who did not especially appreciate incursions by large clumsy animals.

Beautiful imagery, Crock ... so peaceful.
I have always been drawn to trees...always. And the wind.
Thank you for sharing your wonderful thoughts.
Picnic in a tree... I'm FOR IT. Just need someone to climb up the tree with me!
We'll have to pick the right tree for that picnic. Especially if word gets out and there's a crowd.
If I tried climbing in a skirt and heels I'd be a bloody bruised-up mess. No wonder you don't dare move! You guys must have had fun setting up that shot.
