Sad...
Been thinking of Boris and about CC allot since this first broke the other day. I recall when Dale & Bobo did the 1st descent and named it. And when we left Bobo's ashes in it the following Fall. Dale's brother Alan and a few other friends ashes rest there also. One of my most favorite places on earth. I hope to make it back up there again some day, to say one last goodbye.
RIP, Boris!

I'm very sorry at the loss of your friend. I offer his friends and family my condolescences.
It's because of stories like these that I don't do solo trips anymore. A few years back I had a week planned in the Sequoia backcountry. I was going to get off trail and hike over Harrison Pass, Milestone Pass, bag a ton of great peaks in the process. But once I got out there, it just didn't feel comfortable. As a younger guy I would've done it in a heartbeat but as I get older and have family, I have a hard time justifying the risk.
For us climbers, there's always some peace in knowing that a person passed doing something they loved. I hope his family can find some of that same peace.

I want to express my gratitude for the SAR teams who retrieved our friend's body, and for everyone's support. I won't be looking at this thread for a while.

Did it appear to have been caused by an avalanche or fall?

A great shame, seems like a great bloke to have known.
There's no rhyme or reason to this sort of stuff which makes it all the harder when it happens.
Celebrate a life well lived.
Condolences to his family and this who knew him.

Boris was awesome. He really, REALLY did love cheap red wine and was his own man, through and through. Sending my thoughts from South America.

Cragman, thanks for the update.
Could somebody point out to me on a map where this chute is and where Boris parked his car?
Or maybe supply a link or two to show this.
Thanks.
To be a bit more clear... Was his car parked up at the parking area at Tioga Lake to access Third Pillar?
EDIT
Cragman, thank you.
