I just found out my good friend's car has been parked near Mt. Dana / Cocaine Chute for two weeks. I spoke with the Mono County Sheriff and apparently:
1. He probably was alone.
2. There was a note saying he was doing Cocaine Chute.
3. The note was dated April "18th or 19th -- the Thursday" according to the Sheriff. (Thursday is the 19th).
I don't have much other information and am trying to type this message out as soon as I can to hopefully get ANY help/information from the community.
He is an experienced mountaineer but has limited ski mountaineering experience.
Edit: Deputy Degeorge (sp?) at Mono County Sheriff's Department (760-932-7549 and leave a message with the dispatcher) is the official in charge.

"...he has limited ski mountaneering experience."
How good of a steeps skier is he? CC isn't the place to be learning how to negotiate chutes/jump turns!
Regardless, praying and hoping for the best!!

Yes, it's surprising that no one realized he might be missing sooner, but all of us (his friends) are just finding this out as of late last night or early this morning.
His family is out of the state or country. He lives with a friend in Tahoe who is also out of the country at the moment. His occupation (academic research) allows him to work remotely/sporadically and without regular interaction with people, so he usually just works in Tahoe and travels/climbs when he feels like it.
I don't know how good of a skier he is.
Why even post about it online? Because if anyone saw him in the area or saw any evidence of him in the area between April 18-20, someone on this board knows that person or knows someone who knows that person. Wouldn't you post if your friend was missing?
Mono County SAR and/or other SAR operations were launched today and additional teams will be dispatched in the morning, from what I understand.

Name: Boris Avdeev (from the linked thread above).
The timing doesn't sound too hopeful.
One possibility is that his car wouldn't start so he abandoned it and got a ride out with other people,
but it would seem unlikely it would be left there for long,
especially if he was planning to go to Colorado.
[Seems likely he would have removed or revised the note he left, also.]

Yeah - I'm hoping that something like that happened, that he just went on a big huge adventure stupidly without telling anyone, and that someone who has read this thread will spot him in a town or on a wall (you can't miss his thick Russian accent), or that he will show up smiling back in Tahoe.
Thanks for the well wishes everyone.

Dude, that's two weeks ago. Why even post about it online.....
So I'm not a big ST flamer, but you are an as#@&%e. We all, including I'm guessing the OP, understand the likelihood of a good result here. But you are the only one that sees the need to kick somebody's friend in the gut.
Best wishes to all involved.

Hmm I climbed and hung out with Boris a few times in the Valley last summer. He's a super nice guy full of energy, kindness, and curiosity.
I hope he is ok!

Sorry folks, but 2 weeks(+) for a day trip this time of year, no matter how you cut it = death . The first of many (2012) I'd guess.

no news over some period of weeks or even longer, may well be a matter of concern, but is not a death sentence. he may be fine or he may be struggling or who knows what. it is well to maintain a positive attitude and not give up.
