Werner is the bomb, being called stupid by him is at least affirmation that you exist.

Very FEW people actually have a problem with WBraun. There really isn't that much bashing if you actually read the god damn threads. From all accounts, Braun is really nice when you meet him in person and a total prick online. Sound familiar? That MO fits 90% of Supertopians.

I see it as an a$$hole calling a penis a prick.

Even if I'm the prick, I still know where the sh#t comes from.

[edit]

Funny that penis and prick didn't get mangled.

SuperTopo enables Werner to converse more readily with old and new friends, maybe sh#t talk a bit, and occasionally add his stories and pearls of wisdom to the mix. Most of us have better hearing, and more options for communicating.

This could be called stupid. The note with it said the rescuee was drunk.

Anyone here ski "Werner's" at Mammoth?

It took me a few years to develop the skillset, since I didn't know how to ski when I moved up here and started with Chair 11. Plus, all of the Top (the section between the top gondola station and Huevos) had been closed for 10 years.

When Patrol finally opened it, I was ready. It was about 3 o'clock on one of those sultry midwinter afternoons that produces turquoise skies over Mono Lake.

Since I'd always regarded Werner's, Junior's, Cerbes, Balls to the Wall as the 5.12 of skiing, I was understandably apprehensive. But, no worries, they're only 5.9+, like everything else.

Instead of dropping directly into the 70+ degree chute's fall line right off the bat, do some short radius check wedlins on the arete to the skiers left, until a ledge called "Waddy's Chasim (which offers a traverse escape into adjacent Junior's) appears. Windshield Wiper down the sidewall of the arete into the chute's throat. Since the throat is only about 130 cm wide, you'll want to keep the mandatory schuss in it to less than 70 feet vertical. Because, at the base of the chute is a dogleg left. Blow it, and you're looking at about 50 feet of sky.

Several dozen turns brings you to the top of Climax, which looks like Broadway from the top of Werners'.

I didn't know that Werner worked ski patrol at The Mountain until recently. Go figure. I learned to ski this stuff by skiing Phillipe's every time I was on the Mtn, which is to say, every day. When Werner's was my powder day warm up run, I was finished, and I no longer ski, even after many backcountry years on similar terrain.

Mighty Hiker continues his lifework of discernment with the above post. (Canadian horse sense )

…being a Yosemite outsider and junior to the Stonemaster era, probably not my place to comment on difficulties Werner may have had to overcome.

I’ve had a speech impediment…like the singer Carly Simon, I don’t stutter when I sing …but otherwise, God have mercy ! That detriment gave impetus to over- participation on various internet forums offering communication on more correspondent terms.

Whatever brings Werner to love the forum medium…I’m persuaded by those who say Werner’s jeering at friends and yapping at newbies and infidels, here, is done in jest…being insightful and having a sense of humor he might expect people apprehend the levity in semi-caustic counseling.

Some don’t.

O.K. his quip about Pocatello women’s beehive hair was gross, mean and unholy…completely without humor. But usually he’s just pretending mean.

i like it best when wbraun uses the word "dumbass".

not sure why, just makes me smile.

i can see it now: lashed high up on the Captain in a terrible storm, squealing like a baby for a rescue. here comes werner to save the day. freesolo short-ropes me to the summit, calls me a dumbass, lights a cig and starts down the falls trail. how awesome would that be?

jahil:

A man with no sense of humor is truly stupid.
But ignorance is not necessarily stupidity.

One way to get to sound wise is to use words which make one sound wise like "truly."

The "point" of this thread, it appears, is to enjoy the humor.

Werner, enjoy the roast. And you know you could put your eye out doing that?

In 2010 this living legend said:

There are people out there 40 years my junior who can't do what I do, even to this day.

Was it William Clinton? Werner Braun? Rheinhold Messner? Willie Mays?

Locker,thanks for the yucks.

It looks as if Werner enjoys gettin' bashed just as much as you.

We all appreciate humor. My appreciator's "draggin' on the ground."

"I'm so excited, I just can't stand it."

There is nothin' like disco to get a party revved up.
