The best two things you are going to get out of Burning Man is a social disease and a horrible case of the crabs...
Two couples I know that are happily married with kids met at Burning Man.
Broad generalizations mean nothing.

They live in reality, they just met at a really fun party in the desert.
What's wrong with that?

I saw a wedding at my intersection. The vows were great, the house band music, not so much.

I think you're confusing Burning Man 'tourists' with actual Burners.
Conjecture on my part as far as your knowledge, but it seems like conjecture on your part regarding the demographic.
I camped with climbers and river guides, we had a great time, built some really cool art, and made lasting friendships.
Sounds akin to the the climbing community to me...

Be rest assured junior, I'm not confusing anything. I'm well aware of the "Burners".
It's a clown fest. Pure and simple.

The whole world is a clown fest dude.... look around you in the "real" world. The people sitting next to you at work are likely more diluted and misguided then anyone out there in the desert. Take comfort in the high percentage of toplessness and move on.

There are plenty of free or nearly free underground parties every weekend in CA.
BM was over 10 years ago.

The traffic over the weekend of all the hipsters from the bay area heading back over the hills was something to see..

Whatever BM was before, it ain't no longer.
I was sitting in a doctor's office and picked an old editions of a magazine called Town & Country. They had an article about how their poncy group of society mavens made a tour to BM. That must be the definition of jumping the shark.
Look for second-rate famewhore-celebrity influx next year to reduce the original BM formula to nothing more than a dusty Coachella for wannabe's.
It is astonishing how hypocritical the sustainability line is when you see the plastic non-recyclable garbage that is the leavings all along their trail home....

Neat. You have nothing to offer to this conversation other than hating on something you only speculate about or have anecdotal stories to tell.
Pretty much sums up your entire posting history here.
Oh, you can kiss my ass, Chief. You've proven to be someone who argues, but doesn't listen. That's the baseline for stupidity.

A tradition as old as Supertopo itself.
See gun threads and religion threads for similar hating content.

Full disclosure: I'm not any kind of fan or participant of BM.
From everything I've heard, BM has become something quite different from what it was 15 years ago...not unlike what happened to music festivals like Coachella. No doubt there are some growing pains & impacts that have increased, and need to be mitigated.
Is this any different in terms of overall impact than an NRA convention? Or two OR shows per year at SLC? Or a taxidermy convention?
Not really. Quit hatin', and let people do what they want to do, as long as they aren't affecting others. In this country, that's called 'Individual Liberty'.

From the photos I've looked at over the years, it looks to be pretty cool. Anytime I can check out some art and half naked women dancing is ok with me. Maybe I can make it down there one these days.

BM use to be about drugs, art, music and people...then it became about telling people, you went or that you will be going, all year...now it's just tourists, dust and yippies and you guys are arguing about environmental impacts like it was a goal of the event? Wow...

Sending a bunch of people to the desert where there isn't any infrastructure to support them and sending a bunch of people to convention centers that deal with influxes of visitors almost every day of the year aren't the same.

We are all affecting others, some more than others.
Do you really believe yourself what you are saying here? I almost pity you. Have a nice life and do what you want to do, just remember to not affect others while you are at it.

Ever seen the mess & waste that's left behind after an OR show? I have, more than once....let me tell you, even when it's properly managed, there's a sh#t-ton of waste & impact from that 'green' industry after every single show.
Stop being so selective about 'acceptable' impact. If the BM folks are making a mess, they need to clean it up.
