Here's an out of control law, the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), also known as the Homeland Battlefield Bill:
Totalitarian Systems Always Begin by Rewriting the Law - Chris Hedges
The NDAA implodes our most cherished constitutional protections. It permits the military to function on US soil as a civilian law enforcement agency. It authorizes the executive branch to order the military to selectively suspend due process and habeas corpus for citizens. The law can be used to detain people deemed threats to national security, including dissidents whose rights were once protected under the First Amendment, and hold them until what is termed 'the end of the hostilities'.

Those in the know, and the government has plenty of intelligence to analyze these things, can see that the economic (and possibly environmental) sh#t is inexorably about to hit the fan.
and the cover-up of those realities and those responsible for not averting these disasters could enrage people. Barring that, chaos brings instability.
Thus the government is using terrorism and other excuses to put a framework for social control in place against the time when people are uncomfortable, even desperate, and likely to rise up, Liberals and conservatives alike

But the biggest failing of the federal government is not so much the power resting with it, but how decisions regarding the application of that power are made, and by whom.
My argument is that if the Fed were less powerful then it would be less effective as an instrument of control. The decisions made regarding the application of that power, and by whom, as you say, would be less effective were they backed with less authority.
My view is that the Founders set out for a Federal Government that would be very limited in scope precisely so it would not become an instrument of the elite aristocracy.

They were the elected representatives of the several states, most of them lawyers or clergy, (often both).
your mythology comes from Zinn, a propagandist and not an historian.
it's out of control all right.

And clearly some blog is a great source of reliable information.
Consider news and viewpoints from sources other than mainstream media.
They are after all, controlled and owned by the very elite and bankers who run things behind the scenes.
