I'm on the road as we speak after ovetnighting at Sam's Throne in AR. Yesterday, late in the afternoon, while top roping a short moderate, a foot hold, the size of my palm, broke off, falling approx. 35 feet, striking the unhelmeted belayer on the head. Fortunately, he did not loose consciousness nor did he drop the climber but I was standing nearby and took control of is break-hand and lowered the climber to the ground. Visibly, he suffered a small laceration to the right parietal scalp. He was also evaluated at the local ER where a CT scan came back unremarkble. He was released within the hour.

Brad is a 20 year old local of Ozark Arkansas who has no insurance and we have no idea how much his bill will set him back. I told him I would do my best to raise some money. If you can help in any way please make a payment to his PayPal account using this email address; Bradcook527@gmail.com. Thank you.

That is harsh and I for one understand. Try to let the tribe know how much is needed.
I would auction of a piece of my art or a cartoon original if that would help.

Count me in for a sawbuck, but who's gonna hold the green and make sure it goes for medical bills?

(I'm doing the same for LK).

Surprise, I agree with Bluering. A PayPal account helped me in my hour of desperate need. It is free and easy to set up.

I just updated the original post with Brads pay pal information. I just spoke with him and he is forever grateful for anything and everything that this produces. As soon as Brad gets the bill, I will post that information when it becomes available. Thanks again.

Kudos to Skip for hunting down the State medical help programs even though he probably doesn't believe in them.

In California, they will even cover stuff retroactively in some counties if you apply soon enough

Thought I was the only one who noticed the tinge of a certain 'ism that was being embraced by some unlikely characters.

Let the board know the bill, the board can help.

When I was sick and out of work, there was a county aid program that payed for my medical bills. There is no shame in needing help. There is shame in not dealing with one's bills.

I undestand Hank but then again a CT SCAN, I'm being told, can run into the $3K range?

The other thing is: if you can't get the state medical thing to help, it's important to negotiate with those guys.

For example, say they want to charge $1500 for a CT scan. Guess what? Blue Cross probably pays $600 for that same scan for their insured patients. They have negotiated a lower price but they stick it to the uninsured who can afford it least.

So if the cost is out of reach, you make a deal to pay them $50 to $100 a month and after a year, you offer them 50 cents on the dollar to settle the rest of the bill. They still get more in the end than they would if you were insured and you don't get as screwed

peace

Hey Im Brad from Gary's original post. Thanks so much everyone. Ive been apart of things like this before but never been on the receiving end. The climbing community never ceases to amaze me. I will definetly take all your advise on talking with those organizations and the hospital. And when I know how much it is I will post it. But I do not expect any money from you guys. Although I feel like no matter what I say some of you still will give something, and for that I am very appriciative. Your advise has been awesome. Thanks again everyone.
