Howdy again Supertopo-ians,
It's that time of year again. This year will be the third annual Supertopo Secret Santa Gift Exchange. The previous 2 years have been a pretty fun success so hopefully we can get even more people involved this year. For reference:
http://www.supertopo.com/climbers-forum/1022277/Supertopo-Secret-Santa-Gift-Exchange-2009
http://www.supertopo.com/climbers-forum/1311158/Supertopo-Secret-Santa-Gift-Exchange-2010
Supertopo Secret Santa Gift Exchange 2011 Rules
You must be a registered forum user of Supertopo.com BEFORE 11/1/2011. Sorry to you lurkers who want to participate but this is to insure that we don't get any opportunists who want free stuff without reciprocation.
Having said that, if you do agree to participate you also acknowledge the fact that you may receive NOTHING back if your Secret Santa is a douchebag. We will of course mercilessly torment them on the forum but otherwise there is nothing to be done.
And having said that, DON'T BE A JERK! Do not sign up if you are not FULLY COMMITTED to FULL PARTICIPATION.
The gift should cost around $20. Homemade gifts are encouraged, there is no price put on care, creativity and thoughtfulness. Also factor in for shipping, so your overall cost should be around $30 depending on what you bought and how expensive it is to ship.
Gifts MUST NOT BE NSFW!!! (NSFW= not safe for work) No porn, rubber appendages, lingerie, etc...! EVERYONE should plan on sending and receiving something clean and fun!
Everyone is encouraged to post of pics of their gift, sharing the joy with the rest of us!
For those of you asking who the hell I am and why should you trust me...my name is Nick Simon, I have been an active member of this forum for several years, though I do not post terribly too much. I am also confident that should anyone question my authenticity or trust-worthy-ness, there are at least a dozen well known and well respected members/climbers here who can verify my identity and character.
IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO PARTICIPATE THIS IS HOW IT WORKS:
EMAIL ME BY 11/30/2011 if you wish to participate
email me at supertoposanta (at) gmail (dot) com
IT IS IMPERATIVE THAT YOU ADD THE ABOVE EMAIL TO YOUR SPAM FILTER. Last year we had problems with my emails getting filtered through spam. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE, when you email me to join ADD THE EMAIL TO YOUR SAFE SENDERS LIST
Give me your supertopo name, real name, shipping address and any other special considerations like gender/allergies/crazy phobias/etc... =)
Secret Santa Name Distribution emails will go out on 12/2/2011. In this email will be the name and address of who you need to send your gift to. Also, at the same time, someone else is getting your name and address so they can send you a gift!
You will now have 2 weeks to purchase or finish creating your gifts
Have your package in the mail by 12/16/2011. This gives 9 days for shipping (hopefully enough to ensure timely delivery during the Holiday Rush)
I HIGHLY recommend USPS flat rate boxes for your gifts. The flat rate boxes are Priority Mail so they normally take 2-3 days for delivery. Also, the flat rate boxes come in various sizes with proportionate fixed shipping costs regardless of weight. Small box is ~$6, Medium Box is ~$10, I don't know about the large box.
You do NOT have to respond to this post to participate. Maybe you are Royal or Jim or Chris or etc... and wish to remain anonymous. Fine. However you MUST send an email to me supertoposanta (at) gmail (dot) com but otherwise participation is 100% anonymous unless you choose to divulge your identity to your recipient yourself.
Happy Holidaze!

Thanks, Nick.
But only use flat rate boxes for packages over 2 pounds. Otherwise just pay the lower priority mail rate for the weighed package.

This depends on the dimensions of the package. Anything over 12" in any dimension length x width x height can get pricey depending on the weight. Thanks for pointing this out though since most of the gifts are usually small enough to not have to worry about.
Also note, you can ship by a cheaper method called Parcel Post but it MAY NOT arrive on time. Parcel Post can take up to two weeks to deliver depending on the distance involved. Parcel Post is usually strapped to the back of a donkey and you know how slow donkeys walk...

Some avatars make it difficult to know if they are male or female...and age would perhaps make a difference. How much info do you give to participants? Cheers, Lynne
