Thanks, Nick.

But only use flat rate boxes for packages over 2 pounds. Otherwise just pay the lower priority mail rate for the weighed package.

But only use flat rate boxes for packages over 2 pounds. Otherwise just pay the lower priority mail rate for the weighed package.

This depends on the dimensions of the package. Anything over 12" in any dimension length x width x height can get pricey depending on the weight. Thanks for pointing this out though since most of the gifts are usually small enough to not have to worry about.

Also note, you can ship by a cheaper method called Parcel Post but it MAY NOT arrive on time. Parcel Post can take up to two weeks to deliver depending on the distance involved. Parcel Post is usually strapped to the back of a donkey and you know how slow donkeys walk...

This is such a Grate idea. Only reason I haven't participated in the past is I'm not to great in the original idea department and the b of l is a little lite.

Sooo, I'm gonna throw my hat in the ring but it would help if someone could give me some gift ideas.

Or maybe we could develope a Christmas wish list for participants. I know it's not necessary but it would help the clueless....mainly me.

I haven't participated in these before, not being at all religious, nor much of a consumer. Plus I wasn't sure how well it would work cross-border. It's not hard to send (most) things back and forth, but adds to the cost and time required. But if Lolli is going to participate, I'll think about it.

Agreed Seamstress.

It was nice to take some time to focus on the two names I've received. I was able to spend some time thinking about something that would make them smile and that got beyond the words on the screen.

Equally cool are the gifts I received. It was clear they put in thought and fit the gifts to me. Really thoughtful stuff that brought a big smile to my face.

The whole affair captures the real holiday spirit. Can't wait to get my name so I can skulk around and find something perfect!

Okay - one of the elves here convinced me to play! I thought being on the road would be a problem, but realized that my Santa can send my gift to the post office general delivery in Joshua Tree, and I can pick it up there.

I was in the 2009 Secret Santa Exchange and it was one of the highlights of my holiday season. Loved choosing a gift and sending it out, and of course receiving one - hahah. And the bonus was following the thread and seeing what was going on with everyone else and their Santas!

kinda suprised, of all the people that post here only #25 ?! Well, this is my first year. I don't know why I signed up, cause figuring out a gift is always a challenge for me.

Strider, maybe more would sign up if we made it a little more user friendly. Like folks here providing some inexpensive gift ideas etc.

Bubble envelope mailers are generally pretty inexpensive to ship things in. If we have no idea who the person is we are sending a gift to how/who can we ask to get ideas @ their interests? lynne

Not even close to the actual numbers. Remember, you do not have to post ON THIS THREAD to participate, you must only be a member of Supertopo before I announced the exchange and send me an email. In fact, there are a couple on this thread who say they have signed up but not have. No problem with speculating though... But IF we stay on track with sign-ups, this year will blow previous years away. LETS KEEP IT GOING FOLKS!!! The more the merrier!

Strider, maybe more would sign up if we made it a little more user friendly. Like folks here providing some inexpensive gift ideas etc.

That is kinda the point of this thread, a discussion about the Secret Santa Gift Exchange. I am personally a pretty low expectations kinda guy and I like to get and give eclectic gifts in situations like this. Overall this is a LOW pressure kind of deal though so just relax and take some time to look around as you go about your normal routine the next few weeks and see what interesting things you see. A general list of things that would probably be appreciated and generally in-expensive under ~$20(in my opinion):
 climbing dvd's
coffee mugs and maybe some coffee from where you live
reusable water bottles (again from where you live)
t-shirts (I think we all know a guy who sells climbing t-shirts)
books, mag subscriptions, etc... Used books stores can often be a wealth of great, out of print books for cheap. Ebay is a good source as well, just have the seller ship direct to your santa recipient to avoid double shipping charges and delay
pocket knife with ability to clip to harness
if you sew you could make a chalk bag
it's winter soon so knit gloves, wool caps, etc... are always nice
I think finding something unique to the area you live and sending that is always special. Coffee, tea, wine, local brews, modest arts and crafts, etc...
Climbing tape and chalk, you can never have enough
 a Ferrari

If we have no idea who the person is we are sending a gift to how/who can we ask to get ideas @ their interests? lynne

This one is a little bit more tricky. First, please remember that after names are released, you still have two weeks to buy, make, find and finish your gifts which hopefully is ample time. Second, I am hesitant to start giving names out too early because then the random selection process is no longer random. The early adopters are paired with early adopters and the late comers are paired with late comers, i.e. not very random.

Also, to those of you with privacy concerns who are thinking about signing up... this has been brought up in years past with a few people (this year included as a matter of fact) and I am more than happy to work with you. Just let me know your concerns and we can chat about it.

Lynne-

Read their posts to help you understand who they are. It is my opinion that by participating in this gift exchange, you will find the most giving people on this forum. Maybe it is OT and not hard core, but it is people that are taking the time and effort to let fellow taco DADZ know that we are a family.

Hope that makes some sense.

You know strider, the holidays are almost upon us and many people, for a variety of reasons, get depressed. Plus, there are still a lot of people out of work or working for wages that barely (or not) make ends meet.

Maybe we could somehow encourage both groups. The later one could know it's ok to send used gifts, like a favorite book from your library or something. Just thinking out loud, lynne

It's fun to read your recipient's ST posts to try to figure out a good gift for them - like a detective! For example, it would take only a very cursory reading of my posts and trip reports to figure out that I like a little wine now and then.

But the best part of getting a supertopo gift is the fun of the surprise! What is the worst thing that can happen if they don't like your gift? They'll just put it on the re-gifting shelf and still remember you warmly for the effort!

Simon, that's just an insane car. It's astoundingly beautiful and kind of appalling at the same time. Here in the SF Bay area, we see all kinds of super expensive cars on the road all the time because of all the tech millionaires, but I've never seen that one.

phylp... Here's the story with me and that car.

I grew up in Los Gatos in the Bay Area WAY before it became so trendy and hip and full of billionaires. If you know the town then you might be familiar with Los Gatos Ferrari (or whatever they call it today).

A couple of years ago I was there with my wife and daughter. I told them they MUST check this place out. Both were fully impressed but my daughter gravitated toward a luscious car sitting in the showroom away from the flotsam and jetsam of Maserati's, Ferraris, Porsches and other dreck.

Daughter: "I want this one."

Dad: "Okay, keep modeling and saving your pennies."

Before walking out, I ask the kind gentleman the price tag. $2.5 MILLION!

We gracefully walked back, pockets bulging with Benjamins and posed next to the car we will never have.

You think the outside is nice... you should see (and smell) the interior! Not to mention the engine!

Would this be a good time to mention that the cheerful folk at Adbusters, those loveable "culture jammers", have decided that Occupy Xmas starts on November 25th? http://www.adbusters.org/blogs/adbusters-blog/occupyxmas-kicks-nov-2526.html

I will second what Lynne said.

In the past I have received a name and address but nothing beyond that. It would help the whole process if people told Santa things like:

FICTITIOUS PERSON'S PROFILE
I am a 46 year old man.
I am in good shape.
I do not drink wine.
I love blue shirts but would never wear an orange shirt.
I have a dozen kids.
Someday I hope to travel to Iceland.
I do not listen to music but I read lots of books on history, science and medicine.
I love movies.
I am married.

With that sort of info it would be so much easier to send a targeted gift.

hey there say, lynne...

it is a kind of "step or leap" of faith...

*but some folks do send a list of a few "no no's"
as to allergies, etc...

but on the whole, it is just a way to say, bless you,
at this season, and a way for folks to see things
that they receive, IN A NEW LIGHT:

AS, like jaybro said, a chance to see what another
fellow-climber is like, in creative giving areas...

And...

Give me your supertopo name, real name, shipping address and any other special considerations like gender/allergies/crazy phobias/etc... =)

I pass along all the information I am given. I know no more about your recipient than you do.

I would also like to echo the sentiment that maybe you guys are over-thinking this a little bit and placing way too many expectations on yourselves and possibly others.

If this little event causes you stress, sleepless nights and worry then the whole point is lost. In my opinion, the idea is to share something, with someone else, that shows a little bit of you, and also some lightheartedness, joy and fun. A book, a funky t-shirt, a coffee mug, a beautiful photo you took and framed, a flask, a bottle of wine from a local winery; these are all simple things that show some love and don't really require too much money or foreknowledge of the recipient, but still get the point across of sharing something with someone else in the holiday spirit.

Oh, and a Bugatti works too. =)

Cheers

It's all just for fun; that is the point. Don't take it so seriously. My past gifts made my day. Not for what the gift(s) were, but just that they took the time to think about me and we now have some connection.

Hey guys, sorry for being lazy to check up on things, I left work for 3 days for a trip to SF and I have a lot of catching up to do for work. And a lot of catching up to do here as well...

Curious as to how the names are picked for each of us.....jes wonderin'. lynne

Everyone who signed up was entered into an Excel spreadsheet and therefore had a number assigned to them according to the row/order they were in, e.g. the first person who signed up was #1, second #2, etc... Then I used this website: www.random.org to give me a random sequence of numbers from 1-52. Then I used that sequence to assign your giftee. Same method I have used for both previous Secret Santa Exchanges. I then make a couple adjustments based on special requests. Please realize, no one is allowed to ask for anyone specific, but some people have privacy concerns that I do my best to accommodate and I will leave it at that.

Is it a rule that recipients can't open their packages before December 24th, or at least midwinter day?

There are no hard and fast rules except that you post up a picture or comment about your gift, however when you open is up to you. A lot of people have a lot of things going on in their lives, and some people are simply too excited to wait. I just want this to be fun, who likes rules?!?!

Cheers to the season!

My gift is ready but goes out Wed as I won't make it to Post Office tomorrow I think. Looking forward to sending it off! I am definitely opening whatever I get when it arrives. My family practiced "all out of town gifts can be opened on arrival" when we were kids, so I still do that!

hey there all, say, i got to mail mine, just a few hours ago!!!
:) ...

last year was fun, but a hard time, as i was moving...
never thought i'd get done in time, :))

this year, things are a tad better, and i had time, at least, to do something to send, :)

oh my!, the very first year, i thought i was too 'poor' to join in, but many encouraged me to do so, anyways, thanks for encouraging me to do so...
i enjoy being part of the little holday festivity as to all the share, here, on things exchanged... makes it a bit like family, :)
SO:
i'll just 'chalk that first time up' as to my "study year"...
i took a study-on-all-the-doings-here, and saw that i can still fit in here fine, :)

well, happy good supertopo eve to you all...

got to go finish the last of my cards, :)

Well, it's outside the usual secret Santa thing, but here's someone who received something from someone on SuperTopo.
She has instructions not to open it before December 19th, for a special reason, and there are agents to ensure that curiousity doesn't get the better of her.

I'm merely the courier, and bearer of suspense.

hey there say, pocoloco1 ....

as to this quote of your:
Is it better to reveal your identity as Secret Santa,or remain anonymous?

sooner or later, it may get out, as to who the secret santa is--due to mail stamps, country, state, etc, or, if folks know each other's return of address.... (which many times is safer to make sure is on package, as, things can go wrong and it may need be send back--better safe than sorry)...

and like lolli said, she can't very well stay secret, :))

so it is kind of an UP IN THE AIR type thing, as it floats and lands, in many a place, :))

:) sure is nice thoughtful and a good adventure in friendships, though, even if the secret gets out... :)

so, it is up to you, later, how you want it to go,

My Secret Santa gift was waiting for me at the post office today! I had been going in ever since a few days after names went out, wanting to make sure the package wouldn't get sent back if I hadn't picked it up in a set timeframe. It did not occur to me to ask how long they hold general Delivery for until....the moment I typed that last sentence.

THANK YOU Santa Seemstress!

In case one cannot see the details, these chocolates are: a crescent moon wrapped in silver foil, a bag of chocolate stars, each in gold foil and a sweet little box of ornamentally designed pieces, which the box says are: Milk Chocolate Gift, Bittersweet Christmas Tree, Eggnog Snowman and Candy Cane Truffle! The gift card is a very pretty piece itself!

And to have a multi-sensory post, I can tell you that - Oh...mmmm....ahhhhh .ooooh...yessss. VERY good chocolate indeed(that was one of the starts that did that too me.

To encourage more peaker peekers, I received a lovely gift one year and stashed it under the tree. A couple days later, the house was quite smelly. My boss at the time was of Polish descent. There was a hint of anxiety in Sara's voice when I called on the way home yesterday. "You got a package. It's from California. No name on the return address. I put it by the tree. It's creeping me out a little."

Um, Cali.
That can't be good.

When I got home, there it sat.
With the other presents, but ... apart, somehow.

Something was off. The dogs ignored it. The cats gave it a very wide berth. Very unusual.
When you got close, whiffs of portent ... even malice, maybe?
I don't know.

I had resolved to open all presents on Christmas day, but Sara was right. This was troubling. Best nip it in the bud.
A couple passes of a knife, and with some trepidation I pried the top off.

Bright flash of light, clap of thunder.
Acrid plumes of brimstone, clouds of smoke, cries of tortured souls leapt forth.

"Jeezum crow! What the devil have I brought into my home?", I cried.

Why, it's a Christmas gift...

... from a Supertopian ...

... who for all his Bah Humbugging (not to be confused with sheepbuggery) picked out an excellent gift. Conveniently enough, the ice tools and I are planning on taking a walk Sunday, and this little bit of kit will be tagging along. Just have to decide how to christen it.

Many thanks, Jeff, and Merry (*) Christmas! Good stuff!

John Butler, that's a great painting (print?)!

It is a painting... and the aroma of fresh linseed oil (I think) is taking me back to climbing days at Joshua Tree back in the late 60s... my Grandmother painting while my Grandpa taught me how to climb. And my Grandma yelling at my Grandpa, saying he was going to get me killed if he didn't use a rope (hated ropes... only used them as a last resort... it was a growing up in the Tetons in his teens thing)

I opened mine a few days ago. It wasn't wrapped when I opened the 'unknown package'.

I got some Dope Miller 'Dope Grip', which is a lotion-based alternavive to chalk. I have yet to check this out.

Got a sweet Pika nut-cleaning tool that has a tiny hammer on one end to funk-out awnry placements.

Got a purple Pika??? Dog collar? Not sure what that is.

And a T-shirt with a unique lightning bolt on it. On the back of the shirt it says, "Fear is temporary...Regret is forever".

Thanks Santa!!!!

Remember - there IS a contingent who isn't opening til xmas day. And apparently at least one or two people got the boxes and didn't make the SE connection until opened....

I know it can be frustrating wondering, especially since the longer it goes, if the mail DID go awry, the more difficult to correct. I guess the only thing one can do is to believe the gift is on the way or has arrived, and that the joy is in the giving(no matter HOW great getting does feel...!).

If you hear nothing after the holidays, you could ask Stryder to make a discreet inquiry on your behalf. At least then you would know if it arrived.

I received my package, and since I'll be traveling for the holiday, I opened it!

Voila, mesdames et messieurs, my articulated wooden climbing dood with the worlds smallest pro and ATC from a Secret Santa who chose to stay Secret:

He has sticky rubber hands and feet, and a ton of care was made in creating each of the little bits of his kit. The little nuts are actually swaged. I don't know if the nuts and ATC were poured into a mold or done with something malleable. They look like the usual unit only smaller. Very cool!

I got the sense that my Secret Santa did not part with him easily. I hope (s)he'll let me know if (s)he'd like to have him back. He came with a Flat Stanley assignment, but I don't know if I'll be any good at making that happen. For now he has a place of honor on top of my bookshelf next to an old church-key soda can that I found by Through Bein' Cool that had never been opened.

Thank you, Secret Santa!

hey there zip, lollie, and all, say....

just got the grandkids to bed, and went to sleep... got a call from my mom on west coast, and got up for a bit...

so, from earlier noted things here:
i wanted to share, what a neat colored-on box, there zip!
very pretty... i wanted to decorate my outside-box, but i was in a hurry to send it out, due to a few things going on those few days...

also, say, lolli...
take a look at the box, and lets hope this is not damaged...
there is two spots on the box, where it was 'marred'...
i am hoping it is only surface damage... :O

forgot to share that with you, earlier...
look at one of the stamps... and then, look on the very outter left rim
of box...

i sure love seeing the box under the tree-it makes it so homey here...
this IS the first year, here, after all... and a good time to celebrate, as i moved in to sleep the first night here, on christmas eve...

i remember, just before i came in, i was at the grandkids, and just about that time, i had a small crying-break-down at leaving the other house behind... it was very odd... like a baby bird breaking out a its tiny nest to go and NEST in the bigger world... this yard... :))

they used to live here and do christmas here...
last year, i was here unpacking...
this year, they are here, decorating, and now of course, enjoying the tree and pre-christmas fun here, that i had USED to see by
just babysitting here, :))

well, happy secret santa thread to you all, and may many new and
special memories be added to your holiday home time, from this
sharing of joined climbers here...

god bless... got to run...
kids will wake up early... :)

edit:
ps:
me and the grandkids enjoyed seeing the 'mini' climber, :)
very intriqued they were with all the equipment, intricate it all
was... :)

Melissa said:
from a Secret Santa who chose to stay Secret

Actually, it's more that I didn't know whether people outted themselves or kept secret so took the conservative route. Very glad you like it and I hope you find it as amusing as I have the past couple years. :-)

Short version of his story (which was included in the card)... I won him as a door prize at the local Art League a couple years back and ended up gluing pieces of rubber band to the hands/feet so he could work roof problems on the fireplace mantel. Figured other climber types might find him as amusing as I do, so gussied him up with a helmet, harness and rudimentary trad rack and replaced the rubber bands with sticky rubber. I'm hoping Melissa gets a chance sometime to take him out climbing and posts a TR or two, as he really likes climbing outdoors. I also thought it would be amusing if he eventually getting passed around for others to take him climbing elsewhere, but at this point I think I'll make another one for that.

And yup, all the hardware is swaged with the nuts being made from beading crimp tubes (which I sometime use for fixing cam triggers). The ATC was carved out of a piece of aluminum I had laying around and is sized for 1.75-2mm ropes. Was quite fun to make and glad you like it.

Oh, and here's a copy of the pic that was sent with him...

-aric.

LATE EDIT- Here's a better view of climber dood's belay device. I can't describe how much this thing amuses me, and for reference the wire loop is about a quarter inch of 0.027" diameter 7x19 stainless and swaged into the body of the device.

Hey all-
I'd planned to wait until the 25th, but saw this thread update, got all excited, and figured the first day of Hannukah was close enough :) Gifts & goodwill no matter how you slice it.

My Santa stayed a mystery, but I suspect she is a fellow girl due to the understanding that girl climbers *never* have enough hair ties. I've actually used climbing tape in desperate moments.

AND (s)he has kinfolk in the same small, flat, midwestern town as my parents, where I am marooned without climbable rock for the next week. Look forward to using the excellent gift next week when I am headed to eastern granite!

Thanks, Strider for being awesome & holiday cherish and getting it all rolling. This truly brought me many smiles through the season.

and...
a french climbing shop shirt. it doesn't fit me, but my it fits my partner who has yet to buy a new shirt since I've known him (just over 5 years now, is there still hope?), so it's great!

When I got back from the east coast, my husband told me he had opened the box that was delivered for me so that he could put my gift into the wine cooler.

I ran to get the box out of the recycling bin to see if I could guess who my Secret Santa is, but the sneaky sender had it shipped directly from a winery, so I was thwarted in my detection.

I held off looking at my gift until this morning, since I'm headed out of town for a few days and just couldn't wait until after Christmas.

Wow! I was blown away by the very generous and wonderful gift my Santa sent me! Here's a photo:

This is a perfect gift for me. Two of my favorite varietals. I would love to know who sent me this great gift. Santa, if you don't mind unmasking yourself, send me a message!

This annual gift exchange is such a great part of the Forum. My own giftee has never posted here, (I don't love the term "lurker" - how about "Silent Partner"), but I hope that his participation in Secret Santa encourages him to post something, sometime.

Best Wishes, everyone! Phyl

Oh it came it came....yeah....

Oh it's a book, yes it's a book, I wonder if it is a climbing guide to somewhere, no maybe it's an arty book with astoundingly beautiful pictures of the outdoors... oh oh oh it's wrapped so well, where is that special cutter I have to open really hard to open stuff...the one I once pinched my boob in (story for another time)....oh wait, it's from someone that lives in Berkeley....oh this is going to be soooo cooooool and radikal..

My polar bear with the rat's face is all excited.

From Berkeley, from Zander...a book? I should think not.... but instead a beautiful, hand made work of art. It is so lovely with a wonderful card and Holiday sentiment. What makes it even better is that I love to turn wood and last year I was on blood thinners and the Dr. suggested I stay away from sharp tools and flying bowls (ok so I'm not that good of a wood turner)... just seeing this beautiful piece of wood work has me dusting off my wood lathe.

Thank you so much Zander...Hopefully we can meet up in person one of these days. Our boat is just across the Estuary and perhaps we can take you out for a sail one of these days!

A lovely sentiment

hey there say, all...

oh my... i was waiting for the rest of lolli's gift to arrive, and INSTEAD
another box came. :O

seems it was a huge surprise, didn't expect it...
so i'd reckon it is to answer a small prayer of mine:

wishing to smell the wonders of pine-branches in my house, :)

oh, i just LOVE it!:
after a bit of wondering, i finally checked the box really good, and found out WHO IT WAS FROM by the order-label, as it came from a gift-company...

kind of like having an EXTRA "almost secret santa", :))
won't put the person on the spot, unless they want to
chip in here, as, it is a person full of good deeds to other folks,
so i want to be polite, just in case, i'd be out of line "flashig the ol' flashlight" at the giver, :))

here is the gift and NOW MY ONE-YEAR HERE, IS CHIRSTENED WITH PINE!
i love real pine, you all... wow... smells so good..
i will light the candles on christmas eve...
*the grandkids were here too, and enjoy setting it up!!!

well, after this, i got to go nap a bit, been up too early, for them to come over... i am typing much of this backwards and etc, ...and then refixing, and it is hard on the ol' brain and eyes, ... i think i ma raedy to flaa alseep, :O

i am NOT going to fix any more sentences (except this one) :))

THANK you so very kindly, extra gift-giver... :)
i really do appreciate this:

:)

most likely it will come tomorrow... :)

Phylp, I am your Secret Santa. I knew you like good reds from your posts so I scored a good one. I hope the Zin is tasty, that's what I bought.

The wonderful wife of Black Goose Wines owner sent me the e-mails indicating that they were having problems delivering it for a couple of days. In those e-mails she indicated that she also enclosed a free bottle of their Chardonnay for tasting.

I have to give a shout-out to the personal attention that this fine (family-owned) winery gives to it's customers. I hope the wine is as good as their service. (I did a bit of research and the Zin should be pretty good).

And just to check in, is there anyone who still has not received yet? I know of a couple people who are still awaiting packages (since their senders had to get addresses from me not too long ago) but at this point I think just about everyone should be good to go. Any problems, let me know...

Been celebrating "Sickmas" and generally feeling like crap all week (sinus/respiratory infection plus coming down with the flu), so I can't describe how uplifting it was to see a box from my Secret Santa arrive! (admittedly this was the other day, but said illness kept me off the computer to post pics).

I'll pass on a pic of the box itself, as the label was WAY cooler!

My wife convinced me that being sick means I get to open it early, so inside we found...

A variety pack of hot sauce from Marie Sharps! Looks like Secret Santa was following the Hot Sauce thread a while back, where I made mention of Marie Sharps being a lot of fun due to it having a carrot base (for the regular and hot, at least). We got hooked on it years ago while in Belize (where it's made) and at the time it wasn't available in the US. Best uses are on eggs and potatoes, but we found a new one the night we opened the box... Vegetarian stuffed peppers! Specifically, veg stuffed peppers using a recipe my wife pulled from Veg Times a while back that stuffs them with quinoa, black beans and shredded carrots. OMG, was that a good combination. Had I not been sick I would have opened all of the bottles to try them. Yum!

Thanks so much Susan/SCSeagoat! It really jogged some memories of a really great vacation! Oh, the homemade cinnamon rolls at the hole in the wall joint in Cay Caulker... Mmmm...

-aric.

(btw, can pass along the recipe if anyone's interested... It's really good, and that's coming from a devout meat-eater)

Would love to see your recipes, too!

Huh. Tossed "stuffed pepper quinoa black beans" into the Google and what pops up as the first result? A link to the exact page of the exact issue of Vegetarian Times that my wife clipped the recipe out of! Guess I don't need to wait for her to tell me where she hid the paper copy...

Anyway, here's the link: Quinoa-Stuffed Pepper Recipe

And a pic:

In case it isn't obvious, what made Marie Sharps a particularly excellent hot sauce for this is that both it and the stuffing have a lot of carrot, so there was no clashing of flavors.

The camping cooking variation - cube the peppers and parboil to soften just a bit.

Cook the stuffing mixture on stovetop, add peppers, top with shredded cheese, cover and let the heat melt cheese.

Again - great stuff.

I want to make a plea for my Secret Santa to reveal herself. The name is so familiar - I think I should know who the associated taco name is, but I just can't do it. If I were smart, I would have saved her address to send a hard-copy thank you, but I'm not that smart. :/

So, again, I thank you here on the taco Kristin Moore. Love the gifts!

hey there say, melissa! wow, great job... i knit too, and i am not the 'neatest' at it... those are very nice!!!

hard stuff, knitting, as, one dropped stitch and it all falls apart, :))

also, with small knitting needels, it seems to take forever... i always ditch-out and then choose the large needles, so you SURELY did a wonderful job...

*lynne, say, i have terrible troubles trying to post pictures here...
have to go through TWO rounds of 'hit for upload' (one, being the permission thing) (and the first, being for the picture file)...
then, if dial up is not happy, i have to redo it about 5 times, so you ARE NOT ALONE in this hard picture post stuff...

also, the smaller you make the pictures, the more it helps...
for your laptop, most likely, and for the speed in the dial up, stuff...

Hey guys. Sorry for the slow response but life and work has been busy. And I finally got to celebrate Christmas!

Holy Moly! Thank you all so much for everything! Your generosity and kindness is amazing...

The first gift to arrive was a long rectangular box that contained a beautiful, brand-spanking-new...

AWESOME. Already got plans to bring this bad boy down to Josh at the end of Jan to break him in.

A couple days later I got another package, a smaller box sent from our very own neebee (I also got a great christmas card from her as well, thanks bee!). Upon opening it I found:

...which is currently hanging above my bed, admirably catching dreams nightly.

Then a third package arrived, a small box from Barnes and Noble. What could this be, I thought, surely not another gift...but it was! And it seems someone was poking through my comment history because they found the post I made about reading the book, "Last of the Mohicans" and I got:

Catching up with the rest of the Mohican series has been on my list of books to get and now I am a book closer. I can't wait to read it. Thanks!

And finally I received an over night envelope which contained:

A very thoughtful Christmas card and a very generous gift card. Thank you so MUCH John. This was a huge surprise and GREATLY appreciated.

To be honest, I am completely stunned by the kindness shown to me from all you folks. A HUGE thanks to zip, poco, neebee and of course everyone who chipped in to take care of me. The surprise of getting the gifts, one after another and not knowing what was going on was a huge boost during the busy season here at work. Heck, I was in such a good mood yesterday when I was opening the gifts that I didn't even care when a guest cabin here at work caught on fire and I had to run into a smoke filled cabin to make sure it was empty. Fortunately the fire sprinklers had done their job and put the fire out. Probably $20K in damage though but not my problem.

I am happy everyone had a great time with this event, I look forward to it every year. And every year it gets better and better, with more people joining the fun, great gifts traveling across the country (and from other countries!) and a lot of surprises and smiles for all involved.

Merry Christmas Everyone! Happy New Year!

We will be talking about this again in 11 months. =)

From the bottom of my heart, thanks again everyone. =)

i did ask the ex son in law, who had left the girls here, just before the baby came over, if HE could get me one, as he was at a 'multi' type store (like walmart, etc)...

well, that store DID have it, but it was in a pack that was KIT of adapters, so it was 29 bucks, :(

the guy helping him look, had been overseas in the army lots, and he said that they usually sell (at hardware stores) for about 5 bucks...

so now... most likely i will just wait for the envelope to come. :)

hey there lolli... say, glad you posted this...

i been a bit shy to post yet... i been faithfully waiting for the post to bring that envelope... (i was hoping to share good news, as you paid for this to be here on time) oh my... :(

please don't worry on my account, i am fine...
yet, since you paid, you should let them know...

only once, did i ever (that i know of ) not get something... (a few years back, at old address, L had tried to send something that never got here, but then, we had a variety of mailman sub for our gal, so maybe something went screwy in confusion? not sure)...

welllll, my ex son in law DID find an adapter, but it was in a full pack with assesories and thus costed too much...
i took a fast look last night at a store--being that i figured by now, it must not be comiing... but:
did not see anything...

if i get out tomorrow, or later tonight, as i have to mail something to my family, i will try again and see if i can get the adapter...

your lovelyyyyyyyyyyyyyy gift though, STILL gracing my table... i am keeping up my cards and tree, lights for the winter, as it is kind of dark in here with the plastic on the windows (needed here, as the windows are old) (but not sealed all the way, for some air saftey, etc)... so:

my house can still sparkle with cheer, until i can open up the windows again, :)) YOUR LIGHT will STILL lovely here, when i can get i going,
so please know that... >:D< i love it!

well.... got to go now... i also my have to add the adapter to my feb budget, as i wanted to use my extra bit here to surprise my dad with this mail... but--i AM getting to that goal...

so they could cancel the whole lot of them...

does not seem to be damaged, but slightly crunced many from stamping...

and IT WORKS.... :)
