Funny you should post this. A friend of mind infected me with this little gem this weekend. Maybe the worst music video and song I have ever watched to the end. It is not a case of being "so bad it is good," rather it is just a strangely compelling musical train-wreck that cannot be ignored. Enjoy.

Bread, Air Supply and Wham alone ought to be able to fill out anyone's top 20.
You're welcome.

Survival, glad I missed that one. I have to admit that it makes me feel like the old fart that I am when someone says "anything by the Beatles".
But, my 28 yr old daughter says that whenever anyone of my generation hears a Beatles song being played "they get all starry eyed and drift off to some better time", she's probably right.

Ebony and Ivory.
Or most everything by Paul McCartney, post Beatles.
EDIT: Haha! I see someone already nominated the Beatles. Yeah, grossly cliched, but after carefully avoiding listening to a single Beatles song for 40 years they are beginning to kinda sound okay again, at least in small doses. They had some creative tension between the band members.
McCartney by himself is so, so, so stunningly pleasant. Gack.

The Lion Sleeps Tonight by the Tokens.
While in college I worked a summer job at an aerospace company. One of my co-workers had a radio tuned to a station that played that song on a regular basis. Because I was just the summer help and he was a senior engineer, I could never get him to change the station. More than twenty years later, just the thought of that song makes me shudder.

KFOG-FM has a "10 at 10" block of 10 songs they play at 10am weekdays, usually all from a single year in the past. When it's Friday the 13th, the theme is "Hits from Hell". Stuff that was once popular, but we wish now that we had not bought it.... Standard examples are mentioned upthread:
Knock Three Times
Afternoon Delight
Here's a playlist from 2006:
"I Think I Love You" - The Partridge Family
"Knock Three Times" - Dawn
"Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds" - William Shatner
"The Night Chicago Died" - Paper Lace
"Seasons In The Sun" - Terry Jacks
"Billy, Don't Be A Hero" - Bo Donaldson & The Heywoods
"You Light Up My Life" - Debby Boone
"Afternoon Delight" - Starlight Vocal Band
"Puttin' On The Ritz" - Taco
"Copacabana (At The Copa)" - Barry Manilow
http://sitting-here-reminiscing.blogspot.com/2006/10/kfogs-10-10-hits-from-hell-no-more.html
Now unpopular artists like Barry Manilow, Neil Diamond are included. ABBA used to make the list, but they "became cool" after the Muriel's Wedding movie, so they are no longer listed. Other disco stuff will often make it.
Here are some others:
Muskrat Love
Chevy Van
We Are The World
Timothy
They also have a related theme, "guilty pleasures". Songs that really rock, but we are embarrassed to hear in front of our friends. Billy Jean would be a good example.

According to the Wall Street Journal, the all-time worst song to have in your head is "It's a Small World," although I see many other excellent candidates listed. From my own era, I thought "Ninety-Six Tears" by Question Mark & The Mysterians was almost vacuous, despite the great name of the band. I could add lots of mid-1970's music, but I don't know the names any more, because that music sent me off of pop and back to full-time classical.

This has turned into a "most over played" or "songs I'm the most sick of" thread... So think of songs that made you puke the very first time you ever heard them.
1. McCartney "silly love songs"
