We were walking down Main St in Santa Monica to go to a B-day pardoo when the game
ended and the chants of "U-S-A"started coming out of the bars on both sides of the street
and echoing off the buildings. It was pretty damn cool. We nipped into one joint to see the
on field celebrations.

I did see most of the first half - the Japanese D seemed to have no cohesion or communi-
cation. They did get their act together so kudos to them for hanging in there. Now if they
could just find a keeper about 4" taller, eh? That was some atrocious reffing toward the end
of the first half.

I wasn't sure if Carli's last goal was a record breaker--I thought David
Villa had a longer goal. . . but nooooooooo! His goal against Portugal
in 2010 was about 10 or 15 yards shorter, but he hit it first time!
Carli Rocks!

(I'll add that Japan played a pretty good game too--they have nothing
to be ashamed of. Down 4-0, they kept to their game plan and fought
back with determination, they didn't fall apart. Good coaching and
great sportswomen, they are).

A question for all you keen soccer fans: If the US team had been eliminated in the first round, or even failed to get into the the first round, would any of you be posting here?

Do you follow soccer on a regular basis? Or only when "your" team manages to do well?

Ghost I was going for Germany, lol.
In baseball I'm set with the Red Sox.
In futbol, I tend to not have loyalties and like teams for their style of play.

There are a lot of us that are huge futbol fans.
And we'd have been here even if the girls had been eliminated in the
first round.

I was kind of put off by the whole gay thing coverage.
Everybody tripping over themselves to come out of the closet first.
Rapinoe etc documentaries wearing pretty hats, and playing guitars.
