We found you a Farsi speaking dual Iran-US citizen who climbs at least 10's the day after you took off... but it sounds like you're doing quite alright from your other half's facebook page: phone call from 14,000' in Tajikistan. Jim and Bo summitted an unclimbed peak in the Pamirs. New route 14 pitches, 5.10,A1. They're going shopping on Saturday in a market just over the border in Afghanistan. Great cell phone service, easy border crossings? Who'd have thought?

Thanks Majid- I'm in Dushanbe getting ready to fly home tomorrow. Did the first ascent of a nifty, unclimbed 16,000 ft.rock peak that is technical from all sides- details and pics when I return.By the way, my birthday isn't until the 23rd.

the great thing about getting old, if there is a great thing except the fact itself, is the precision with which our friends calculate our birthdays gets better as a percent of our age... what's 20 days out of 20,000? something like one part in a thousand, or a tenth of a percent... where else do you get something that close?
...if there is one piece of legislation I'd like to see passed, it's that our summer vacations remain the same percentage of our lives... when you're 5 and in school, you've lived 60 months, a 3 month summer vacation is like 5% of your age... it would be kick ass that at age 50 you get a 30 month "summer vacation." We should do this, the demographic is advantageous now to get this passed!

Used to think, "man that guy looks old!" Now 35 years later, you look the same and I'm "looking older than dirt." What gives, what's your secret?
BTW, Happy Birthday!
