The amount of inaccurate historical information people post online is amazing. I am glad that RV has created a de facto historical record in JT West and has enriched that record in his new book.

I'll admit that my situation is different from that of a visiting climber, in that I know the area well enough that I rarely carry a guidebook around anyway. But I agree that were I to carry a book it would be to find something obscure so the more complete volumes like JT West are more valuable to me in the field.

I'm looking forward to checking out the Miramontes book too.

Hey Soulsurfer, ranger avoidance is a skill requiring many, many, years to master. Unfortunately the way to master it is to have many conflicts and learn from each one.

Both of the new guides look great. I too have a bias towards the RV book due to the many cool anecdotes and our shared history.
I would pick up Roberts book too if I could get a deal.
Hint hint.

I have worked with both of the publishers and they are first class. Dave and Kevin put out a quality product.

"How bout a guide book on avoiding the Rangers there. I think with all the rain we got this year, they must be growing at record rate! My last trip out there a few weeks ago I ran into, and got shaken down by a few. Any body else seen an increase in Park personal this year?"

This park has turned into a training ground. This year, yes, they now have a full compliment. What usually happens is they come here young and new, go to FLETC (Federal Law Enforcement Training Center) back east, and stay for a short time afterwards and leave.

Basically a revolving door.

Despite the complaints, the rangers here give FAR MORE warnings and then they do tickets.
