Today a local guide had his pack stolen from in front of the Indian Cove market. He left it unadvisedly just outside the door while he went inside. The pack contained his entire rack, rope, plus his guide school harnesses and helmets (which were not his, they belong to the guide school).
If anyone hear's of any Ebay or other sales of gear, please post up!

Gear thieves have a special place in hell.
I'm thinking large 2 axle cams up the a*# with no trigger wires. Have fun, you heartless bastards!

Some of us guides actually have two separate gear stashes, one for guiding, one for personal. I don't think he has this. Which means, he's f*#ked. His tools have been stolen to earn money.

That is a tough lesson to learn.
I don't trust too many people.
I certainly don't leave anything unlocked or just sitting on the sidewalk.
What is the list of gear that is missing?
Good thing that there is pro-deal and such.
Still sucks.

I don't have an exact list of gear, but the extra harnesses and helmets should be a clue. Most guide schools out here use apline bod style harnesses.

This is a really unfortunate situation and I hope against odds that the perps are caught.
That said, one has to be especially careful anywhere along HWY 62 -Twentynine Palms Hwy.
This corridor offers a quick getaway to countless dirt roads and roadways for thieves and other shitheads that would take advantage of others.
Keep your valuables out of view in locked cars, park where you can see your vehicle while you shop/eat if possible and remember that most folks traveling this highway aren't part of a tight knit community.
Be aware of your surroundings and don't be an easy mark.

I feel very sorry for the Guide. But I feel sorrier for the thief. Not a good way to exist....taking someones livelihood. Must be hard living with the darkness inside instead of living in the light.

Lynne, You're a good lady.
People that commit these crimes choose thier path.
They get what's coming to them in many ways and deserve it all.
One thing they don't deserve is your sympathy.

There is nothing to feel sorry for. People who do things like this don't live anywhere other than inside themselves. They feel nothing for the people they effect or hurt.
Which is why they should be taken somewhere quiet, remote, and their existence ended.
I learned not steal as a kid. I got caught, and punished. As an adult, there is no excuse for it.
If you steal as an adult, your scum in my book. PERIOD.

Not sure what you meant by that.
I was thinking very clearly. If you steal, your a bottom feeder. I could care less about climbing gear or anything else.
I had my house cleaned out while my wife was on chemo. I can assure you, I am thinking quite clearly.

Did the guide ask the owner to review (and save) his security camera footage?
Seems that would help with the recovery. The people that exited the market
while he was inside would be 'persons of interest'

I wouldn't worry, over time people always end up paying full price for their deeds. I've seen this and... It's cool in a sad freaky way.

Having seen the spun out meth addicts that stumble all over town in JT...I get nervous leaving my car alone let alone a pack.
Sorry to hear about this, I hope the gear gets recovered.
Chances are its sitting in some drug dealers closet.
