What a tradgedy, condolances to his family and friends.

Jay, seek help if you need it, talk to Werner, or someone.

The longer we are involved in this game, the more likely something like this will happen to one of us, both the falling and the finding. The finding is the part I dread for myself, so Jay, my heart goes out to you as well as his family.

This is a very sad thread indeed, as a young life was cut short far too soon.

I wish Tyler's family and friends my sincerest condolences in the aftermath of this tragedy. May you be able to find peace.

I am very touched by all who have wished my Tyler's family and friends sympathies and prayers, and peace for Tyler.
For those of you who did not know him he's one of the most unique and awesome people to ever walk this earth. I am extremely proud to be be his Aunt! He taught me so many things even though he was almost twenty years younger. He was fearless in his pursuit of life and the most genuine of souls. He will be miss terribly by our family and his friends.
Thank you all again for your kind words and wishes.

I am so sorry for his family's loss.

He had his whole life ahead of him,
And yet, at least he died while out in the beauty of nature, not in a freeway car accident or some thing like that.

Enjoy each and every day y'all!

A message to the family.

Please know that most climbers have come to recognize the mortal reality of their pursuits. It is not a "death wish" that compels us to ascend rather it is a life wish. A need to feel truly alive and in balance with our world. We choose to challenge because we desire self actualization. This is not to say that we do not mourn the deaths of our family, friends and fellow climbers. As a group we deeply feel these losses. From the outpouring of heart felt support presented on this forum I hope you know that you have a whole family of friends out there who wish you peace and solace. Your presence here on this SuperTopo forum has added a painful yet positive dimension that is tangible to many of us. And I for one thank you for your input. I truly hope that your family will still value the life your nephew led even though the pursuit of it led to his departure from it. May you be at peace.
Respectfully Phil Broscovak.

I told her it was definitely not her son's body from November that was found at the end of May, as the May victim had been identified. I also told her that it would take awhile for the snow to melt from the backcountry to make searching for her son's body feasible. She wrote back and thanked me for the info. I haven't tried to check back on whether her son's body has since been found, but I would expect she is in touch with someone in the NPS who would know more about their search procedures.

I'm so sorry to hear about this - I was on the wall when it happened. It certainly was not mainstream news in the Valley this spring. This was the first I had heard about it.

SOLO CLIMBING IS DANGEROUS! Many of our friends have died recently doing it, like Johnny B. and now this poor lad. Our one guy from McTopo [James?] nearly killed himself free soloing at J-Tree a few years ago, and Chris Chan died on an unroped traverse [different but similar]. BE CAREFUL - DFU.

My condolences to Tyler Tomkins' family and friends.
