we're all anonymous here. I feel quite safe. And besides, why would Taco Paco waste his time on a bunch of climbers when the feds cause him infinitely more grief.

Goodness gracious, use a bit of reasoning.

So- anonymous paranod dude- who shot JFK? and MLK? Was it the KKK? or the CIA? Who planned 9/11? What do you have to say about that? Or should we be careful online here, because we are so un-anonymous?

How very scary.
I think I'll go hide out in JTree.

Anonymous Paranoid Dude - you must not know much about the way the interenet works. The only data this website can collect about you is the IP address you're posting from. That's it (so long as you aren't suing some POS MS browser or something.) Additionally, whoever you're worried about has to get ST to give them that info, and somehow I don't see Chris Mac jumping up to hand out that data to the drug folks. Even if they get it, it's damned near impossible to figure out who someone is with only their IP address to go on.

If even that's not enough security for you, go through an anonymizing web relay and you'll really be fine.

In short, don't worry about it.

anonymous non-paranoid dude - while you are correct, agencies with tons more security than SuperTopo have taken hits.

anonymous paranoid dude - regardless, you are still paranoid.

anonymous paranoid dude isn't paranoid. He's just trolling. Real climbers wouldn't be such chicken-shi#.

I heard that the plane was flown by a family member of Yosemite's own Jose and that Chongo helped Jose's family get their black book back...setting Chongo up for the rest of his life with free Lodge Cafeteria food and laptops

I'm sitting here splitting a gut! Is this how it was really discussed back then? No wonder the loose facts turned into rumor turned into legend.

This is really great stuff

It is not what he/she/they are saying here. It is how it was said that is interesting. I looked at this page carefully and could not figure it out, unless the site has been hacked. If not it seems artful to me. :)

Maybe it's a test for the Sub-Forum Mission?

Not mine though. I already tested. Did not look like this. I am suspecting buffer overflow attack. But really don't have time to look at this very closely.

What's Buffer Overflow attack?

Hey ST forums are pretty funny these last few days. This thread looks dead, or at least asleep, though. I can't wait to see what arises out of 8,000ft erection study thread.....

Yeah, in the northeast they call that sushi. In NASCAR country, bait.

Ah, sorry, forgot to answer your question. Typing (or usually pasting) many more characters into a field on a form than it was design to take (for example, when they set up their (?) login(s).
It is the basis for most worms, viruses, etc. The extra data ends up being part of the program, (overwriting valid parts of the program).

Look at the two Matt M's. One is real (hyperlinked), and the other is bogus. View, Source in the browser - but only if you know anything about HTML... :)

The fictionalized story is worth digging up - just look around and dig up a copy of "Angels of Light" by "Jeff Long" ([edited]). It's a damn good read. It's out of print, but Amazon has it in the used section. No, it's not how the real crash went down (no pun intended), but whatever. It's the best you're going to get.

Forget the real story - who scored a bail of kerosene soaked weed in 1976 isn't something that anyone is going to offer up (at least the true details - though the bit about the black book is true if you look at the FBI records - those gangsters wanted it back from Dorn!). Sure, there's no way the fed's are going to do anything now (think of the embarassment factor - they lost a big score to some climber rats). However, it's not good to dig up actual names - people from then might have a real career now, or have children, or something that offers them redemption from years of Camp 4 hedonism.

For those that haven't followed my thread "1977 Yosemite Plane Crash," (its on this board) I am researching not only the crash, but everything surrounding it. I personally knew the pilot and his wife. She and I are coauthoring a book on this event.

I knew what was going on with the plane, and for almost 30 years we were unaware of the climbers and their stories. So far I have interviewed almost two dozen people involved in this event. Climbers, people surrounding the plane, and people involved in the investigation.

Like most stories, the legends far out weigh the facts. A good example is making three flights per month for a number of years made the quanities of dope that people managed to find from this plane a drop in the bucket. Although in this case, there are some pretty interesting details regarding the crash, the investigation, and the climber's lives. In other words, this is a great story that needs to and will be told.

Lois, you are begining to see why a factual book on the subject is
needed. That is unless you or others would like to live thinking they know the subject inside and out based on 30 year old rumors. The amount of encouragement that I have received to date far out weighs the negative.

Stay tuned, because as it is said, "Now you'll hear the rest of the story"

This episode is powerful because it is essentially the American dirt bag climber's dream: ski touring in the sierra's...stumbling upon contraband...getting baked...stokin' out your friends...making money...buying new gear without having to work for it...sound good to you? Me too! I just wish it was me who found the "pay load".
