The climbing hold company So iLL started making some shoes with colored rubber. I don't think they've finished production so there's not much info on if the rubber actually measures up to the best of Vibram of 5.10's offerings.

sign me up for a pair...if they get it sorted out.
Here's a pic of my heel after a few pitches in Red Rock on Solar Slab.
I was a n00b to climbing but being a n8v to Vegas(and used to playing in the heat) I had no idea the sun would burn me through my shoes like that.....live and learn.

Blueblocr,
I didn't look at the size, but know they were quite a bit smaller than my 10.5 foot. I didn't realize someone would want to wear them, thought they would just be part of a collection. I'll swing by there in the next couple of days and check.

Can't find a size on the shoe, but they are around the same as a size 5 or 6.

Not sure if that helps.

Well it´s been around for quite some time like others have mentioned. And there are quite a few brands who make models with white rubber and even more colorful like green and yellow. But from what i´ve heard it´s just not as good so i´m guessing that it´s just easier or cheaper to make performance shoes with black rubber.

I spent several years in rubber related R&D.
I never buy shoes with non-black rubber.

I would smear chalk on my toe rand and heal at belays and it seemed to help. then just wipe it off before climbing. is there any reason not to do this?

Then Boston area climber Paul Duval had a small climbing import/sales business in the late '70s/early '80s and used to stock Paragots, so a few of us tried them out and liked them. In the pre-Fire era they were the stickiest shoes available and, if I recall correctly, were quite comfortable. For a brief period they were my 'go to' shoes, especially for smearing, but then Fires arrived!!!! While I really know nothing about rubber technology, I can understand that altering the color will likely effect performance in other ways, but given the good qualities of the Paragots I imagine that with sufficient experimentation a high performance modern white rubber sole is possible. However, in terms of heat management, it does seem that the 'uppers' are usually more the 'culprit' than the soles.

A.G is hardly AG, which is in English CO, and should in French be SA. I expect A.G to be a name/firm.

I remember Paragots. A minor improvement on the EB that quickly became eclipsed by the appearance of the Fire.

I remember checking out a pair of climbing shoes that had white rubber soles and that was 15 years ago or so and I believe they were made by Boreal. The Five Ten rental shoes we have at the gym have red rubber soles. Butora makes a white rubber shoe that I have seen as rentals at the rock Gyms. Climb NuLu in Louisville KY has them.
