Is it possible that black rubber absorbs energy better than white at an atomic level? Thermodynamics experiments about black body radiation show that black materials absorb and retain thermal energy better than white ones do. Can this absorption of energy by black rubber account for its "stickyness" and improve traction? One thing is sure, mechanical energy is converted to thermal energy via friction, during footwork. When I had Miuras soled with 5.10 rubber, I used to dribble water from my nalgene onto the leather tops at each belay to keep my feet cool. The anasazi velcro didnt absorb water so my feet baked. My TC pros are kinda hot. The best shoes of all times were Acopas. Lotsa leather so good on hot days.
