Daily application of tea tree oil is prescribed. Scrub first with soap and a brush. Rinse thoroughly (so soap is not a barrier.) Apply oil with a q-tip.

My technique for relieving the pressure of a smashed or impacted nail is to get a straight-edged razor, hold one of the sharp corners/points down on the tail and rotate it in circles. Totally painless and you will know when you hit pay-dirt by the eruption. The relief from the pressure/throbbing is almost instant. Again, totally painless. Repeat as necessary.

^^^^^^^ I do the same thing with a small drill bit.. not attached to the drill...just twirl it back and forth between your fingers til you go through
