Isn't that Townes? A whole different ball o' wax?

10Bforme- try that link I posted above for Bandit- it's a relatively new song from Greendale which is a pretty sweet concept album worth listening to in its entirety.

Turns out TvZ didn't need him around anyhow too.

No Townes thread, so I'll just tack these in here.

Steve and I have tickets for his Nov. 10th Seattle show. Can't wait. This tour's set song lists look great. Playing older stuff with Crazy Horse. They'll be jamming for sure.

My son-in-law bought us front row seats at the Hollywood Bowl concert. He is a good SIL.

It was great seeing guys my age rock as hard as they did 30 years ago abeit Billy Talbot leaned against the amps at times to rest during some of the songs.

Can't sing worth a f*#k.--Locker on Young

Sometimes I think Locker can't think worth a funk. He's harsh and abrasive, but so's Waits, but Locker knows abrasives, so...

But he harmonizes well...

I'm no guitar expert, though.

His talent as a Candian song-writer are second to none.

Just got On the Beach and Tonights's the Night digitally. I'll tell you, I'm right there with every song on these two albums. This is the Neil who speaks to me best. This is the Neil who most reminds me of where I was as a climber/young person in the 1970s.

One example. Tonight's the Night.

Bruce Berry was a working man
He used to load that Econoline van.
A sparkle was in his eye
But his life was in his hands.

Well, late at night
when the people were gone
He used to pick up my guitar
And sing a song in a shaky voice
That was real as the day was long.

Tonight's the night, yes it is,
tonight's the night
Tonight's the night, yes it is,
tonight's the night.

Early in the mornin'
at the break of day
He used to sleep
until the afternoon.
If you never heard him sing
I guess you won't too soon.

'Cause people let me tell you
It sent a chill
up and down my spine
When I picked up the telephone
And heard that he'd died
out on the mainline.

Tonight's the night,
tonight's the night
Tonight's the night,
tonight's the night.

Bruce Berry was a working man
He used to load that Econoline van.
Well, early in the morning
at just about the break of day
He used to sleep
until the afternoon.

And maybe my favorite Neil Young line, from "Open Up the Tired Eyes."..."He tried to do his best, but he could not..."

It will be interesting to read his autobiography; as compared to Shakey. Memories change and Neil has been known (like the rest of us) to change the perception of memories, as our lifes zoom by. That and the fact that he likes to to leave a little bit for the imagination.

Not too many songs of his I don't like; it isn't always the lyrics. Although both the angry words as well as the romantic ones seem to touch me as much as everyone else; then there's the combination of both.

I love the violent riffs on the guitar as much as the sweet strokes on the mellower tunes.

I have been listening to the Americana CD a lot. He never stops creating.

Neil Young is super killer. Saw him in the 90's with soundgarden in the 90's in the black hills what a show. We don't get a lot of music in these parts so it was obiviously super sweet. Mike

some guy above spoke enthusiastically of two-thirds of NY's Ditch Trilogy. He's advised to check out the remaining third.

Time Fades Away is a ragged, fukked-up gem. Some pretty piano ballads alongside out-of-tune, chasing-the-beat rockers. It's an integral part of the Tonight's the Night/On the Beach gestalt.

Zuma doesn't get much attention, but it's arguably the fourth installment of the Ditch Trilogy.

in 1980,i had no money, still dont, but i sold a guitar to the house of guitars in rochester,it was a 59 gretsch duo jet,it sat in a case on the wall ,bo diddly played it there,on the back he wrote "one sweet baby" w/a white pen.the price had doubled.then in 82,neil was playing buffalo, the night before he had an autograph session at the house of guitars.the album "trans" was out.i went to the house ,and after ,neil pulled my old guitar down, tuned and plugged in,he played"sample and hold" for the large crowd on hand.i never got that gretsch back. koritfworld fav; on the beach, recorded w/the band
