Someone told me they saw this thread resurrected, so figured I would chime in.
No, no one ever got caught. No, the insurance never came through.
Yes, I'm still here and don't plan on closing the shop anytime soon.
Sorry if you ever came into the shop and I was short with you when you asked about the break in. I get asked a lot, and it still stings every time.
If you want to make sure small businesses like this are still around, please support small businesses. Pay in cash, if you can, that 2% per transaction fee for credit cards stink. Every little bit counts, even those $1 stickers.
If you come to Smith, stop in, say hi. I think we're pretty nice people in here. Hope to see you out on the rock!

I really hope that Dwolla or some alternative reasonable payment system takes hold. Visa, Mastercard and their bailed out, too big to fail, corrupt vampire squid partners in crime (BoA, Citi, JPM) impose a huge tax on our economy. They are worse than Ticketmaster - and Paypal is just as bad.

Eric,
Redpoint has been a staple of the Smith Rock climbing scene my entire lifetime... we won't let you go under. Keep up the good work! I'll keep on buying stuff when ever I can afford to do so, and hopefully I can get a few clients this year to come in and do the same....

Eric, sorry that the perps were never caught and the insurance failed you. I'd give you my business, but Dublin to Portland could be a costly exercise. However, the next time I am in the locale (haven't been to Smith Rocks since 1976), I'll give you some biz.
Stzzo, I see what you are saying but Argon does have a point, and it is increasingly difficult to book anything (tickets, train, theater, etc etc) nowadays without some sort of credit/debit card.

What ever you do please do not buy the Smith Rock Select book! Buy the new Watts book a little more coin but worth every penny.

Yeah IMO and I know many others feel the select guide was just a ploy to make money published by outsiders who saw a market for it, while Alan was working his ass off trying to churn out a solid product. Sure the idea it makes sense, but if Alan had gotten his book out when he originally said he would have I doubt the select guide would have ever came out. Not that I own it or anything but as far as I remember half the pages are ad's if I recall correctly... not a magazine but a guide book... hmmm

Redpoint Climber's Supply is AWESOME...i will deliberately hold off on buying stuff in Washington to get it at Eric's shop...
Plus, no sales tax in Oregon.
