19 years ago today I met my best friend, Lopez. We have laughed together, cried, hugged, yelled, played music, explored and laughed some more. We are also known to dance like reindeer in the aisles of stores.
15 years older than I, he has taught me more than anyone about the Beatles, has introduced me to amazing music, has trusted me with his original music and we've shared some special concert moments together, in particular, a King Crimson show in Phx many moons ago. He has also taught me about loyalty, kindness, and acceptance.
I taught him it's never too late to be a dad, to laugh out loud, to be silly beyond words, and to lighten up. My attempts to teach him to tap dance failed. :)
We drive each other nuts, but that's what great friends do. :)
My gift to him for our friendship anniversary?! An old yearbook from Nogales HS, 1935. It's bad ass.

Oh My Goodness!! I haven't seen that photo in forever, Kath!! And NO, I don't remember the caption! (damn me!)
That was the first time I ever climbed at Jacks Canyon with my goose, Rosie....(Don't get me started on Rosebud love).

i was serious enough about learning how to tap dance that i went to the first night of a class. i got there and the sign on the door said canceled due to lack of interest.
probably an omen of some sort.

I remember when Mr. Hines passed away... I cried. And I am now officially in love with Peg Leg Bates. What an amazing fellow. The two guys tapping together... wow. WOW. Awesome.
I didn't learn how to tap dance until I was 30 years old, for the first musical I was cast in, "Anything Goes" by Cole Porter. I had a blast!
A very sweet clip shared with me recently, which happens to incorporate tap dancing and one of my favorite love songs ...

My suggestion? Pick up your guitar. :)
My son recently took his Stella from my house, and I am so happy he is playing it. My best friend, Lopez, got it for Pickle when he turned 13, and it's only taken 7 years for my son to get into it. When Pickle was growing up, I never provided him "regular" Toys R Us gifts, instead opting to put art supplies in his hands, every type of musical instrument, exposed him to climbing at a very young age, skateboarding, break dancing and theater.
I grew up with my own guitar and a piano in the house. My father plays 12 string, and my mother played piano before hospice was put in place at home, then I just started playing FOR her. I haven't played since her death.
On THAT note, I will be getting a keyboard from my friend Natalie at the end of this month, I think right after Christmas. She knows I write original lyrics, and thought it would be great I had an instrument I could play. (I cannot play the guitar at all because of my Fibromyalgia) What's great is that I've been wanting to purchase myself a keyboard, Natalie didn't know that I used to play, and then offered me this gift, out of the clear blue. I couldn't be more excited!!
The Universe listens to what you put out there... it's a gift to be open and receptive to the gifts we didn't know would be presented... music, love, support, and the warmth and kindness of others. I am forever a student of this Life, and I couldn't be more pleased.
Now, enough about me, Dingus... get your eyes back over to the Boobie Thread. :)
