Hey Mike-

I'm still a rookie w/r to posting up movies, but the film I did of you and Travis on Twilight turned out very well. I think I have to join You Tube in order to post movies here. Here's one photo taken the previous day, prior to your "exciting moment" on Practice Rock:

Just back from the party. Thanks to everybody who helped make it happen, but especially to Fritz and Mark, who worked hard before, during, and after to make the event the success that it was. I'm grateful for your efforts.

I really enjoyed the week: meeting a bunch of interesting and enjoyable people, putting faces to avatars, and hanging with old friends. (Donini's scorn alone bumped my climbing 5 letter grades.)

Oh, and the stone! The last two times I went to the City, Ronald Reagan was president. I'd kind of forgotten how good it was. Is. I don't think 27 years will pass before my next visit.

I have a long list of "catch-up" tasks to achieve today, but since I'm taking a cool-down break after mowing our considerable lawn, here's some more photos.

Late afternoon on Sunday, Donini, Jack Tackle, & Greg Crouch decided to hike up to Eagle Rock to climb Eagle Crack 5.10a. Mark & I followed, to watch the legends in action.

However after Donini led the route, Mark & I headed back to camp for "cocktail hour."

Our first night was both the Summer Solstice & Father's Day, so I dressed up.

Great time as usual, thanks to Fritz and Mark for doing the heavy lifting to make it all happen and to all those who prepared the fine meals.
A special thanks to TWP for climbing with me every day and sharing your great sense of humor. I could go on and on but to everyone else great seeing ya and hanging out and I hope to see you all next year.

For Jim, as per requested White Lightning trip report mostly #3's and #2's in a left facing corner with a couple of roofs and a small piece for above second roof, you will love it. Anchor takes a #1 and a #2.

Mark brought a foot-pumped hand-washing system that he uses on multi-day river trips. Once our dirty-handed climbers got used to washing with it, the system was tolerated by most & even liked by some.

Unfortunately, Monday morning, I discovered a drowned juvenile Packrat in the five-gallon bucket that holds clean water for the system. I fished it out with two pieces of wood and placed it on a rock near the kitchen, so all in camp could bid it farewell & give best wishes for whatever afterlife it might have in that big rat-nest in the sky.

However, it was horribly disfigured with what looked like large tumors on its back. After somewhat distant study by those in camp with biological knowledge, or strong stomachs, it was decided I should take it to Park HQ for their biologist to look at & perhaps share with us what hideous disease it was carrying. I held open a garbage bag while Brokedown used two sticks to drop the packrat in. I then drove it to park HQ and after leaving contact information, returned to camp for climbing. Mark shut down the hand-wash system & dumped the water a good distance from camp.

That afternoon I stopped by park HQ and was informed the tumors were Botfly Larva & no threat to humans, although it was suggested we might want to add some chlorine to the hand-wash system water. We also wrapped the clean water bucket in a garbage sack to keep out other diseased & suicidal creatures of the night.

Botfly Larva! And I was worrying it had bubonic plague.

^Fritz, ha ha. What were the temperatures like in CoR? It's bizarrely hot in Seattle at the moment.

Who is Mr Burns Moosedrool? Hey I'm sure I'm not the only one hoping you (Moosedrool) is OK. I'm also sure I'm not the only one wishing I had been in City of Rocks with BigMike as a rope gun.

Nutagain! It's great that you and your gifted teens stayed with us, and I'm looking forward to seeing you folks again next year.

Darwin. Daytime highs ranged from the high 70's F. to a max of 88 F. on Thursday. Bear in mind, that most all the day is less warm than those highs.

Mark & I had sun on the last two leads of Theatre of Shadows on Thursday & for the long descent, but it wasn't too hot.

After the climb, Mark & I drove to the top of nearby 9,000 + ft. Mt. Harrison to cool down. We explored the views and sorted our rack before leaving the windy 60 f. summit.

Fritz, ha ha. What were the temperatures like in CoR? It's bizarrely hot in Seattle at the moment.

Darwin, if you think it's bizarrely hot now, just wait til next weekend. Temps are forecast to be about 95 both at Index and Squamish. And staying home will be no better, because Seattle will be just as hot.

Which doesn't mean you can't climb, just that you have to be a little careful about picking the right routes (and not caring about dying of heat stroke). I posted a story a while back about Nature visiting the PNW and going climbing with us on a day that was that hot. There was puknig involved, but We all survived.

Goofing off in camp, young Andrew of COR joins us for some dinner and stokes to lead the 5.11 above the grill area.

Along with Andrew, Big Mike and Vegas Climber we took a donnini "rest day."

Thanks all for posting up. Skully! It was great to see you again.

On Monday morning a number of us went to Practice Rock & climbed on 3 different routes. Brokedown "Geezered-Up" & climbed all of one route & substantial parts of two others.

After the sun hit the rock we scattered to other places. Unfortunately our group picked the still in the sun Bloody Fingers area, which was also quite crowded with what we later learned was the Las Vegas Climbing Club.

The City was quite busy last week, possibly due to the very favorable weather.

After dinner the Savage brothers presented me with a vintage 1973-74 #7 Chouinard Hex they had purchased as teenagers in my Moscow, Idaho outdoor store. I was deeply honored. Thanks again gents!

So wow! Another great trip to the City Of Rocks. It was a joy to talk to many old friends and meet some new ones.

I got my chance to be a climbing enabler and hold Travis's rope for any lead his heart desired. Plus spend more time with a good friend who has a huge heart.

Thanks to all the cooks and meal providers! Everything was excellent and it was always a joy to come to dinner. Thanks to Fritz for everything! You are the machine that makes this thing run, and Mark deserves a mention too along with Heidi. A fine event I always enjoy attending.

I am the first to admit i am a bit slack when it comes to helping out around the campsite... I hope to make it up in the digital realm, with the many photos that will follow.
