OK its not a Randy Weaver special. Its 100% legal and if you want to see what one looks like (but not the proper way to use it) see Three Kings.

Its that burly revolver with the 3" long cylinder, and since its chamber accepts the .45LC and the barrel is rifled it qualifies as a legit.

But fill 'er up with five rounds of the Winchester magnum buck loads and firing double action (and easily one handed!!!) it'll spit out 25 pieces of 000 buckshot in less time that it takes to get 25 rounds out of an MP5 with two hands.
Not as accurate beyond point blank.
Slower to reload (the sixth "shot" is when you throw it).
But many thousands $ less (not to mention headaches) than an SMG.

Thing is, at well over 3 pounds, its more of a below-the-counter gun or a vehicle dedicated beast dispatcher (birdshot for snakes, .45LC for car maimed animal) and distress signaler.
So rather than carried this one has been sitting on the shelf or in the case for years.
The same niche is more effectively covered by my derringer, contender, or .45

But its a helluva conversation piece, more cylinder than frame!
(Plus if you dont tell people its a shotgun and put a balloon on a stick 50 yards out you can hold it up and then pop it after pulling down a blindfold! Think about using a slug the first time, deliberately missing, and then wagering on another try....)

Called by the manufacturer (MIL Inc of Piney Flats, TN) the Thunder Five, it is my only revolver with a safety lever!
I bought it for just under a half grand and will sell it to a climber for $250 or a yahoo for three bills. No scratches, light cylinder and barrel wear, fired about 400x.

Also have too many high end riot guns if somebody's headed to bear country.

But it's got to be sawed-off.

For my next big job at the bank.

I gotta come to a SushiFest and check out your hardware, Ron. Er..., I mean your firearms.

Sounds like a unique gun. I'm shopping for 45 ACP's though. Prolly go Kimber. You were saying Sig's are tasty, weren't you? The Kimber is just a beautiful piece of American hardware though, ya know?

I'll bet it would chamber (and fire at least once) a .454 Casul.

I wouldn't want to try it myself, but I would be interested in seeing it done.

Was just dry firing (with snapcap) one of the new Kimber rifles at Dixie Gun today.

Laminated stock, stainless fluted bull barrel.
More than a grand without a scope, but sweeeeeeeeeeeeet.

Barely got out the door without one.

yep. they're known for their handguns, but you gotta love a company that puts that much love into a gun/rifle.

I couldn't imagine .45-70 in something that small.

I know they make Derringers in .45-70, but making them is one thing. Selling them is another.

And actually shooting one is all together crazy.

Ha!

http://www.thunder5.com/docs1.html

I had a friend who owned one of them there precision-engineered hand-shotguns.

He brought it over to my house to show it to a few of us, and the quote of the evening was "what the hell is that, a f*#king flare gun?"

I was wondering who bought the other one.

45-70 usta mean .45 cal with 70 gr of black powder. Lots of guns would handle that. Don't know what they are charging them with these days.

Friend gave me a 45-70 cartridge that he took from the remains of a steamboat that wrecked just below Ft. Peck, Montana on it's way to supply Terry and Custer's columns. He caught the river low and used a metal detector. Found all kinds of goodies.

Yeah.
We talked about that already.

.45-70 was one of the few cartridges to successfully transition from black to smokeless powder after 1896.

It packs plenty of punch.

Momentary hijack:

Ouch -

That's cool. Related subject - Did you know they still haven't found the metal boat frame that Lewis and Clark abandoned near Great Falls? It's almost certainly still there....Wouldn't that be cool to find.

Now back to "Weird Guns" on A&E.

Despite what my kids say, I wasn't there. But everything I've read says Lewis said,

"I am no coward, but I am so strong. So hard to die." To Mrs. Grinder at the Grinder house.

Edit: Ron, have you ever seen Lewis and Clark by Ken Burns?

Early 10/11/1809 in the Natchez Trace to Priscilla Grinder (through a locked door), "O madam! Give me some water and heal my wounds."
