I have guns from a dozen countries, and from my own native land offerings from a host of manufacturers, but since 1981 I've always had more Rugers than any.
Its hard to say why, but the fact that my first two still function flawlessly may be a clue.
Still it is more than the robustness of the design that does it. Economy, originality, and outstanding customer service figure as well.
My most recent is one of the short barreled Mini-14s.
I swapped out the stock for a Butler Creek (yeah, I know, no riding in an APC, but when stuffing a two seater kraut sled with ordnance then compactness can count), and I sent in the coupon for 3 factory 20 rounders with a personal check for $60.
That was 6 days ago and the package was in my box from AZ this morning. Obviously they didn't wait for the check to clear.
Rugers rock!

Ah hah, I can finally post to one of your gun threads cause I actually have a Ruger Mini-14 223 Cal.
Edit: Can you tell this morning I'm putting off going to work...today's marketing day. Drum up some business. Say, anyone sick out there ?....My problem is I always hope NOT !
Peace (and guns ?!, whoops!) Lynne ...just use em for protection, trap/target and the occasional food.
Edit: deleted commets about the Ruger, have it but I was thinking of the Sauer P 232. Ruger is bigger.

My old landlord in Laramie had a pistol, made in '76 and down the bottom of the barrel it said, "Made in the 200th year of America's freedom".
I think it was a Ruger, does that sound right? Got any like that?

I used to have a Ruger riffle. I'd target shoot once in a while but I don't hunt. I tried to scare off a mountain lion with it one time but I just pissed it off.

Thanks, Ron, I don't remember if I saw the mags or not. The significance would have been lost on me, though.
The internet, and supertaco are amazing, just ask the right person and all kinds of weird info is out there.

I've always been a big fan of the simplicity and ingenuity Ruger brings to their products.
I still have a 10/22 carbine that I bought used in 1976 to replace a Marlin autoloader of about the same size and function. I'd gotten the Marlin new two years earlier, and the action was just about completely worn out in a year and a half. The serial numbers date the 10/22 to 1967, and it still works quite well.

Said it before;
if you need to move from room to room at night you need a handgun, a flashlight, and a third hand to open doors.
Solution;
a handgun with light attached.
If you are alone or have everyone with you in the room, position yourself between them and the door with your scattergun and cover it.
A shotgun is deployed like artillery;
from a fixed position into a known field of fire.

The Super Soaker is the only weapon you'll ever need... see http://www.hasbro.com/supersoaker/ for details. That should put an end to this 'Field & Stream' type OT thread...

Pagan,
I already have two with nonfolders, and the folder makes the "short" advantage more pronounced.
Also, "night sights" is a misnomer born of verbal facility.
The proper term is "low light sights".
If it is truly dark what good will seeing your sights do? (for you that is. For your opponent to see where YOU are they are very good.)

The Coconut Head as well as the Hasbro Super Soaker are thoroughly proven to be effective offensive and defensive weapons. Also on this list is the flaming dog shite bag. When ignited and thrown properly, this truly dibilitates your opponent.......
