Yo_

I keep trying to enlist climbers to the Muni (mountain unicycling) ranks, so to goad any potential riders out there, here are some pics from last weekend on the single tracks in Santa Barbara. Three of the guys featured are climbers.

That link is dead for me. Largo, Do you know Nathan Hoover? He's the only guy I know that rides those.

My three tear-old son LOVES that one video you linked here a while back --> CRAZY UNICYCLING, along with some of those skiing videos that were linked in that thread.

He'd love to see more, so I would certainly like to get more links to 'Muni' vidoes.

Niiice!! I was just thinking about this a few weeks ago. I used to try unicyling at Todd's house, when Collins would whip his out. Tricky!

My brother just called me the other night and said he had one I could have.

Any advice or tips, John?

I've ridden with Nathan a couple times. An El Cap vet who is one of the Muni pioneers. Great folk.

For info, check out Unicyclist.com.

For after cragging, Muniing is a blast, especially at places like Josh. If you like balance sports, a king sized workout, a huge buzz, moderate danger, great mountain views, and a very steep learning curve (one year and you can be at 5.10 level), try Muni. It's very addictive. The folks who get good the fastest seem to be climbers.

Sorry Largo, But you guys really ride those things on backcountry trails. It seems like a real easy way to break your neck. Your something. You are not trolling, you really take those things up in the backcountry. You can really ride trails? Wild.

It would make a great student project building a control system to bet it to balance.

You use a lot of hip action?

Anyone know of a robot that uses one wheel? A great new project.
Maybe the DOD will go for this. I can get some of the IRAQ money.
This is great.

Thanks

There is something inherently wrong with this "sport", if you can call it a sport. It's more like an activity were men/women? get together on a mountain to see how long it takes for pain to show up.

I don't know but "International Blood Check", "Cactus of Pain" and "Ball-Ache" all seem to come to mind when looking at these thrilling photos. Specially that one of the man in the pit gettin' run over by the "uni".

Don't get me wrong, I'm not poking fun, but I just can't get excited about trying to balance on a single wheel while simultaneously avoiding the inevitable sack-mulch. Any time I put my penis that close to near seration... I have to stop and thing to myself... "What's it all for?"

I always thought there must be more intersection between these worlds. Slacklining, Muni... these are also the realm of jugglers. Nathan H. is a skilled juggler as well. I know him from juggling circles -we've only talked climbing a few times.

edit) here's some cutting edge juggling, although the setting and quality of the movies is not that great.

Yep, I can see it now bro...

...You and Nate heading to the crag with just shoes, chalk bag and slackline in your pack throwing pins back and forth at each other while muniing down the trail.

Ok, just for fun. A comparison between juggling difficulty and climbing. This is pretty silly really, since they are both so different. Oh, and all juggling done on the ground is A1, unless done with fire or knives.

Balls:
3 balls = 5.5
4 balls = 5.7
5 balls = 5.10
6 balls = 5.11+
7 balls = 5.12
8 balls = 5.13
9 balls = 5.14
10 balls = 5.15

Clubs
3 clubs = 5.6
4 clubs = 5.9
5 clubs = 5.12
6 clubs = 5.13
7 clubs = 5.14+
8 clubs = 5.15

Doctor - How exactly did you rupture your testicle.

This has to be a joke. I cannot believe they ride unicyles on mountain trails on a regular basis.

I think I'll save my luck for the stone.
Too much ball risk.
I like to keep my boys out of harms way.
