Sad, but true, Tacoids. We went up too early and baked yesterday, so today we left after lunch to get some shade--road closed, indefinitely. We talked to a Caltrans guy hauling rocks. Down stream, a bridge washed out badly--see pics--and they worry the same will happen to one or more of the upstream spans, which, of course, climbers must drive over. I guess they've evacuated? Anyway, looks like Pine Creek is out of commission for a while. We'll be exploring other areas soon. We found the bridge over to Little Egypt a bit too sketchy a couple of weeks ago, so the water up there must still be very high. Quite a year, folks. Always have alternate plans.

Yikes! Glad that didn't happen over the weekend while I was in the backcountry out that way. I would have been quite disappointed to come on that driving out.

Hey, Weston: The blown bridge in the pic is down stream, out in the lower area far from the climbing, BUT the road into the canyon above IS closed. I don't know if the upper bridges that we would have to cross have been damaged, but that's the worry/prediction of the authorities. Bummer.

Bridge crossings and culverts are almost universally undersized across the U.S. It's a major problem.

When we rebuild them, we should make them a little wider for habitat, safety, and saving money.
