Ask for rock climbing gear for your birthday and Christmas, how else?

Xmas never worked for me. I couldn't even beg a helmet. Zero enabling for this dropout.

All stories are on a 1 year delay. They think that I stopped climbing about 15 years ago. ( actually.....I did)

How annoying is it to be referred to as " he's a big climber"?

Correction: How NOT to tell Mom you rock climb.

You say rock climbing to a parent that has spent
their entire lifetime earnings just to raise you and
all their brain hears is: Mom you've raised a complete idiot.
Why did you f#ck up so badly that I had to start rock climbing?

The first photo is my daughter, back when she was 5:

Now that she's 10, she climbs at 5.9.

Anyway, how'd you come across that photo? I'm not complaining by any means (I don't really mind sharing photos with people), but was just wondering where/how you found it.

When someone finds out I rock climb, these are the usual questions:
"What's the tallest mountain you've climbed?"

"Do you free climb? Like that guy on TV?"

"Have you climbed anything I've heard of?"
My go-to answer for the last one is usually "Manure Pile Buttress". Then they get a puzzled look, and there aren't any more questions.

I think my way was the best when she got the helo rescue bill. Yeah, I had some splaining to do.
I told her to ignore it just like the ranger told my mate.

my mom started technical climbing b4 i did.

still has her ebs.

yerian hung in her old whillans harness when he was working on the deck.

in hidnsight, she mustve been relieved when i started climbing. it was way safer, healthier and more legal than everything id been doing up to that point.

I have learned the best way to explain is drag someone along. They don't have to climb really. Just tell them you want to show them another side of Yosemite. I did this with my friend Adam at work. I took him along with myself and my partner for a morning of cragging at bunny slopes in Tuolumne. Dude had a dslr and took some amazing shots, got jazzed up about the approach, and had a great day. I offered harness and shoes and he backed down and said next time. He told everyone at work and showed pics and now no more silly questions or weird looks when trying to explain what you do for "fun".

Once, as a teenager, I tried to show my father what "rock climbing" was all about by taking him to the crag. We pulled off at Pywiack Dome and started climbing the Dyke Route. He stood down at the car screaming at us, "Get the F*#K down, right NOW!"

I never made that mistake again. Don't tell your parents ANYTHING.

I forced my folks to endure watching at Smith Rocks many times, including a retreat from Abraxas in a snow storm.

My mother offered to buy me golf clubs, HA!

Then they watched me, Lesher and Lepton for our final day on Tribal Rite. They knew there was no cure after that......
