Now that must have been terrifying.

Glad to hear that you survived, and that your house is still there.

Wow Jim, glad you and Angela are OK.

Remember Sawmill Bench on the final morning?

Sorry to see the impact on your scenery, but at least now you will enjoy some further protection with so many fuels gone.
Get out there and reseed. In a few years it'll be beautiful.

Glad to hear you, Angela and your house are OK. Lucky you were there to help the defense. Must've been a long night.
You ask "What's next?"
Some R&R, a whiskey or two and creating some more defensible space.

Watch out for ash flows in the spring. Maybe scout some boulders too. A bivy by the water might be nice under certain conditions. Looking around might show you what happened in the past, and may occur in the future.

edit:

You may end up with a seasonal stream.

Glad for the outcome, Jim. At first glance it looked like Jstan shoveling on your fire line.

Wow, J-Do. This thread certainly got my attention first thing. Gripping even for us 6-7,000 miles away. Firefighting is such a panic; worse than laying concrete! Glad you, yours, and the property are okay.

Jim: WOW! Glad you saved the house----and yourselves. Looks like that nearby trout-stream got toasted though.

Is Ruth's place OK?

btw, hard to tell from the photo, but that slope behind yr house looks steep enough to worry about slope stability once the rains come-- will they reseed?

Hey Jim,

Never a dull moment for you.

So glad things turned out O.K for you and Angela. Do you want the 2 feet of snow I've got around my house for a fire break?
