I'll admit to opportunistic.

Let me simply say, Annette has nothing on these ladies who graced the festival today.

Hey where's the %$#@ CLIMBING photos, lol lol lol????!!!! !!!11111

Here you go:

Yesterday I started out at 5 AM

headed to Chipmunk Flat up Sonora Pass Way. But instead we ended up at Burst Rock for a sunny season-ender trip.

My buddy Angus, unrecovered from serious wrist injury rehab, came along and actually climbed his first rock since May, and not coincidentally, that was the last time I saw my old partner of 25-years. It was a great day climbing moderate and easy granite cracks on a ledge in the wilderness. Hard to top.

So we all relocated ourselves to Oakdale and some killer Mexican at El Jardins. I did not see Ray, nor any other Friends, but the salsa was killer and so too were the carnitas. Modelo on tap, yummy! BURP!

All that said?

I was there last night. At the Oakdale Community Center.

I took no pictures, it felt presumptuous for some reason. Like it was not my place to 'take' anything.

I didn't work the room. I'm not much of a room worker, actually. Mixer meets - Hi I'm Dingus Milktoast, what's your name? - not my thing! :D If you saw me there the chances are excellent I did not introduce myself and we did not talk ;)

Did make a circuit around the room but all the table with books and guys like Tom Frost and Joe Fritchen signing books were busy so I kept moving. Truth be known I had no moola to buy any of their books and felt somewhat pauperish and ill-prepared.

Circuit near complete, I saw a vision straight out of the Haight back in the day?

No, it was not Jerry Garcia. It was Ed Hartouni, my old friend I'd never met. Been threatening to meet and climb with this man for well over a decade it seems. We live less than 100 miles apart. We climb in the same areas. We kibitz on the internet all the time. And yet, here, at the Oakdale Climbing Festival, we met for the first time.

The pleasure was mine, Ed. And thank you for not lecturing me on climate control, fast motor sickles, or internet protocol. Of course, we being us, hehe, none of that inconsequential bullshit was even so much as mentioned.

He did tell me Big Data does not exist. I'll leave that out there like a big stinky fish.

And there, by the door, is that Peter Haan? Yes it is, another +decade old friend I'd never actually met. We chit chatted about underground cities and recalled mutual friends like Inez 'Real Women Wear Kneepads' Drixilius - where DID she get off to this time?

Shot the sh#t with DR as Alex Honnold did his crowd pleasing routine. That dude is an excellent speaker - informal, makes you feel like he's chatting with you. Off hand comments such as, he's describing a moment of difficulty on Half Dome, shrugs, points to someone in the audience, not sure who (but SOMEONE, if you know what I mean), and says,

'well, you know.' Lol. That was so cool.

Todd Gordon flicked my ear for asking an impertinent 'last-question' and thus stifling Doug Robinson's patiently queued question, sorry Doug? A beautiful woman put me up to it, what was I supposed to do? Say NO???? (Hah! right)

So I asked Alex the magic question, haha.

Had to go shortly there after. I met Tim Camuti another multi-year friend from the west side Sierra patch. You know, those Hwy 88 climbers, a shifty and nebulous bunch at their (our) best. :D You know who you are and will confirm your shifty natures, I'm sure.

Mark Tuttle from TOE (Tuttle Outdoor Equipment) was there, showing off his new yellow pack. It was SLICK! He got me to sign his Yosemite Climber book lol lol lol. I am now - ONE OF THE BOYZ!

And Dave Boger you ole %%$#$@!!!! :D Bet a lot of folk don't know this Druid of a man built Stonehenge with sweat, plywood and a couple of credit cards :)!!!! Sure was good to see you too, probably been 15 years since you last got to see my pretty face. ;)

All the old farts, I think there were one or two of them, ignored me. Boodawg gave me a stern look for telling a bad climbing story. Sorry man, didn't realize it was you or woulda said... STEP BACK, hahahahaha.

A balmy evening walk back to the cars, and a 2 hour drive home.

DMT

ps. Sunday morning... blue skies, Sierra on the horizon, Kirkwood is closer to me than Oakdale.... have fun with the rest of the party!!!! I'll be fisticuffs here in a couple of hours, thinking of you all.
