"I'm back."--Lady Pink, Facelift Foto Fiasco 2012Roger Brown called me "sneaky" today in the collectibles shop where I found my very own Mickey Mouse Club lunch box!

I'll admit to opportunistic.

Let me simply say, Annette has nothing on these ladies who graced the festival today.

The Cover Girls of Supertopo and elsewhere.

They like to fish and hike and climb. What more could you ask for?

But is Peter pointing? And if so, at whom?

All the time here under the sun.
Only had a moment there to think about all the things I should have done.
I can't remember when I felt so good, it must have been yesterday.
--T Hocking's not mine

What, exactly, is a solo climb, anyway? We've never done one.

By request. Peace.

Word. No jive.

More appreciation--for organization and effort on behalf of our community.
Isn't it a shame all this wasted time?
You know it hardly feels right
Wasn't that the cart we all hoped to find?
Gettin' to feel a whole lot better about
Every thing
Everyone
My sweet old friends
Wherever you go the sunshine seems to follow you
I'll be there for you
Take me there
Take me away
I'll be there
For you

Thanks for the use of your group's verses.

You and Mo had best make plans for next year in Oakdale or get an "F" in Bonhomie 101, Tad. :)

Especially sorry to miss TM. See you next year, Herbert?

The Mouse That Roared...And Clicked was hard at work this year!

Thanks for shooting everyone painlessly Brian.

What a freakin' blast that was!

I had a conversation last night with a couple of old friends in a trimaran on the Sacramento River delta about directed dreaming and the notion of asking yourself whether you are in a dream state while awake.

I had to laugh because I was doing that very thing at several points during the Festival this year as I would look around and see Haan, Bates, Wunsch, Robbins, Frost, Erickson, Jones, Denny, Beck, Fitchen, Robinson, Reynolds and the rest of the Dream Team!

Heaven on Earth if you are a historian.

Wonderful photos of what is clearly a great event. Too bad that it is on the "wrong" side of the continent for me. I do want to add my words of sorrow and concern to see RR in a wheelchair. I hope that it is as a result of something temporary, though I fear otherwise.

I met Susan on ST. She (and Ferretlegger) are now a part of my own circle of friends as well as many others. The Campfire Grows. :D

I know I've mentioned this several times before here on the Forum, but Royal showed up out of the blue to speak at and help with John Bachar's "Peoples Memorial" in Camp 4. I'll never, ever forget Royal Robbins and the speech he gave, the respect he showed for JB.

It was great seeing these two on the stage together. Loved what they both had to say. Texture of photo gives a feel for the uncertainty of the times they spoke of.

I am glad that both of these guys were willing to come and represent the Stonemaster crew with Largo unable to join us.

The Only Blasphemy is 200% Largo and an uberclassic. Glad our boy didn't crater on that one! LOL

Hearing about the FA of the Bachar-Yerian in detail for the first time was a real treat! Dave brought John's spirit into the room with some honest and heartfelt emotion and longing for his essence.

Dean introduced me to Charles Cole III BITD and we had some fun times on the Captain pushing each other onward and upward.

Two quotes I thought memorable and wrote down.....

Roger Breedlove about Jim Bridwell, "Creating a community that Everyone could survive in."

And

Steve Grossman asking Royal Robbins, "What was it like, Royal, to be a movie star?" and Royals response, (at which I still giggle :) "It struck me, Steve, as odd and consequently I wasn't asked back."

Steve Grossman, is the weekend going to be put on a DVD and sold? I'd love several copies. Cheers, Lynne

Lynne, I might have said "survive" but it wasn't such a dangerous time: I meant "thrive."

On the other hand, maybe it would have been more dangerous if Jim hadn't been watching over all of us.

The story I told about Jim's welcome of Henry Barber on his first visit to the Valley is telling. Jim took Henry climbing on New Dimensions and was almost giddy to learn how well Henry climbed. He just laughed and shook his head with some measure of disbelief. He reported that Henry just waltzed up the crux pitch and then told Jim what a great climb it was, and said it was cool that the hard part was right at the top.

Jim thought it was great.

When you step back and think about all the ways the leader of our tribe in the Valley could have greeted a new climber, Jim's welcome was about as perfect, and positive, as could be imagined: "More talent! Cool."

Jim did that with everyone.

Brian- Thank you for doing such a great job capturing the people and spirit in the hall. We didn't take a group shot this year but you got great shots of everyone.

The only person that I neglected to thank was Tom Seawell who helped me capture the event while doing some recording of his own in support of a documentary that he is working on (with a little help from my efforts) about our good friend Tom Frost.

I will be working on getting the Sunday Camp 4 program in finished form ahead of the rest of the Festival content as the powers that be in Yosemite need to understand us in the same way as John Reynolds came to do through the efforts of Tom Frost, Dick Duane and the climbing community worldwide.

It was a bit disappointing to see the room so empty on Sunday for such an amazing program but I have it on tape to share with everyone in spite of that.

Here is a link to the main Oakdale Climbers Festival 2013 thread.

The climbers interviewed include Step Davis and Lisa Hathway, both of Moab, Nancy Feagin and Brittany Griffith of Salt Lake City, and mothers Lauren Lee McCormick of St. George and Jacinda “JC” Hunter, who has four children and her signature climb is in American Fork Canyon.

“The biggest challenge I’ve had in climbing and in life is juggling a full-time job, a husband, four kids and time for climbing,” said Hunter, whose children don’t climb. “It’s a constant balancing act.”

And speaking of trails, when I trucked up to the base of the Nose and hung around Moby Dick, I couldn't help noticing all the improvements on the trail up to there.

I did not get a chance to go further up, but to the dudes who've been doing the work--at Facelift, I think, a lot gets done by organized volunteer convict labor--you need to be thanked, so THANKS.

I had some pics, but they were out of fucos.

Just so you know, Tom Evans did not do this shot. I stood on a chair in the meadow.
