Big Mike had a snowboarding accident on Blackcomb Mountain 9am today. He was cruising high-speed down a groomer run, Solar Coaster, when he did a normal as can be ollie over a roller. Sandra, his partner found him laying face first and not moving. He couldn't move his legs he said. Ski Patrol heli-vacced him off the mountain and he was sent via ambulance to Vancouver General Hospital.

Diagnosis is burst fracture and dislocation of his L2 vertebrae. Swelling around his nerves is putting pressure on them so they are going to have to do surgery immediately to stop that. The bursting of his L2 will make it easier for them to get in there at his affected nerves.

He is going for an MRI right now and surgery will begin after that. He's doing ok right now but his butt is sore from being on a spine board all day.

So once they fix the immediate nerve problem, he will be on the road to recovery. It will take a while but he will be back on the cracks no problemo.

Give Mike some good vibes. He will really appreciate it. I sent him some calm good energy already in the emergency ward with his sister and Sandra, the more the better.

Having just spent 5 weeks in the hospital with a compound leg fracture my heart goes out to Big Mike. That's a tough injury but those docs are first rate and we trust you'll pull out fine.
