Yosemite Climbing Association is hosting it's second annual Legends of Stone event. Ed Cooper will be doing a presentation at the East Auditorium in Yosemite Valley starting at 6:30pm on Saturday, October 20th, 2012. He will be showing his exceptional photography of his 59 years spent in the mountains and also talk about and show never been seen before pictures of the the first ascent of the Dihedral Wall of El Capitan. The Dihedral Wall was completed 50 years ago and was the third route established on El Capitan. Should be a good warmup to Steve Grossman's Oakdale event. I hope to see you at both events. It should be a great week.

Thanks,
Ken

Ken, have you considered a Stoned Legend series?

Would probably have to bump up to the late 60s and early 70s as most of the old boys are still stuck on vino?

BITD when Bugs McKeith would come from BC to Yosemite, he'd bring a case or so of good BC brewskis and share it with us CA lads who were deprived of decent brews. It'd be GREAT, Relic, if you kept up his tradition. Baldwin & Cooper should fit the bill nicely!

Looking forward to seeing you, Ken and Joe, so soon after the facelift too. Talked to Ed today and there will be the Dihedral Wall plus bonus shots from other climbs in his presentation. Yep should be a great show.

(Gnashes teeth, due to inability to attend either or both events.)

Sounds like it'll be a great week in the Valley and then Oakdale, with lots of history and characters. Ed gave a somewhat similar show at the Squamish Mountain Festival in 2011, which was very well received. He's put enormous work into scanning and restoring his old photos.

Bump - only a week to go.

DON'T MISS THIS EVENT FOLKS! JUST FIVE DAYS AWAY!

These two great photographers alongside Tom Frost are the best of their generation and combined forces to climb this classic route. Tom was totally stoked about repeating it two years later with Royal! He loved the climbing and said that these two and Jim Baldwin did a great job especially considering that they had few alloy steel pitons on their rack. A soft-iron adventure to say the least!

Come and hear all about it!

More Dihedral Wall history to whet your appetite...

I sure wish Dennis Hennek & Don Lauria who did the 3rd ascent of the Dihedral Wall would show up! Sheesh, you guys, since you're coming to Oakdale, why not just make a week of it and stay at my place??? Don, bring McLean with you!

I wish I could make it to this one. I first read about guys like Ed Cooper when I was a young punk wanting to know what this "rock-climbing" thing was and perused Chris Jone's famous book. When I met Don Gordon a couple years ago and talked climbing, Ed Cooper was a big figure, as he remains in my estimations. Is Ed going to be in Oakdale? I would love to meet him.

Ken:

Any autograph sessions? Are any of his photos going to be for sale. Any t-shirts?

Just curious.
