Anybody got a good source to find beta on this area?

I would love to clamber up that beautiful piece of rock this summer.

I think Capt. Skully told me he climbed it once, awhile back.
EC Joe is your best source of info. or Richard Harrison.

Browse the Sierra 100 classics (which has a couple of topos if I remember correctly) or old back issues of AAJ. If you're curious, just go. Isn't that part of the adventure?

EC Joe has a website that may have info

Google him and angel wings, you'll probably find it.

Or just wait. He posts here pretty regular.

Reilly, That is one KICK ASS photo!

Angel Wings on the left, Cherubim Dome on the right.

Check the High Sierra Peaks, Passes...etc. too. Sierra Classics: 100 Best Climbs...

edit: the vertical banter page has some on the wings...topos too.

Hi Spider,

How was it? Also, where did you find info?

I'm looking at going out in August, and having a hard time finding much about it.

Angel Wings is about 15 miles from the road all on good trail. The trail is relatively flat for the first 10 miles with only a few ups and downs. Then the trail climbs for about 1500 feet to Valhalla.

18 miles from Crescent Meadow, according to the Sequoia-Kings Canyon climbing guide.

Spider, nice photo. Got one without you in front of the rock?

The rock on the three routes I've done out there that has quality rivals Yosemite granite. You guys must be on some other stone...

Went back there with Fred Becky once. Careful at Bear Paw meadow. Lots of bears back there. Angel Wings has incipient cracks and flaky granite for the most part. Pretty shitty really but adventurous and tall.

Ha- Largo- Becky routes are always shitty and flaky, but they do get you to the top.

i watched it during a lightening storm and saw plenty of rocks coming down. i have spent a bit of time in the backcountry of sequoia/kings canyon. at first i thought i wanted to head up angel wings, but after peeking around it seems like there is better rock quality in other areas of the park...bubbs creek, the watchtower. i think it is 15 miles from wolvertin/lodgepole (west side) in which case you walk right by the watchtower which looks rather lovely. i was always working back there never got to climb.

the ranger at bear paw plays blue grass and can be very friendly if you are the same to her.
