Howdy Supertopo folks!
So I thought I would post up and try to gauge interest in a Supertopo user Secret Santa exchange. I think everyone loves getting gifts; random gifts from a(n) (almost) stranger are usually that much more fun. So is anyone interested? Below I have outlined the rules (subject to change, by consensus) as I see them. If you have suggestions or changes, just post up here and we can agree or disagree to implement them.
Supertopo Secret Santa Gift Exchange 2009 Rules
You must be a registered forum user of Supertopo.com BEFORE 5:00PM 11/27/2009. Sorry to you lurkers who want to participate but this is to insure that we don't get any opportunists who want free stuff without reciprocation.
Having said that, if you do agree to participate you also acknowledge the fact that you may receive NOTHING back if your Secret Santa is a douchebag. We will of course mercilessly torment them on the forum but otherwise there is nothing to be done.
And having said that, DON'T BE A JERK! Do not sign up if you are not FULLY COMMITTED to FULL PARTICIPATION.
After the gift has been mailed I ask that the sender emails me verification of having sent the item and the recipient emails me verification of receipt.
The gift should cost around $20. Homemade gifts are encouraged, there is no price put on care, creativity and thoughtfulness. Also factor in consideration for shipping, so your overall cost should be around $30 depending on what you bought and how expensive it is to ship.
Gifts MUST NOT BE NSFW!!! (NSFW= not safe for work) No porn, rubber appendages, lingerie, etc...! If you would like something to that effect you may put it in your special considerations HOWEVER EVERYONE should plan on sending and receiving something clean and fun!
Everyone is encouraged to post of pics of their gift, sharing the joy with the rest of us!
For those of you asking who the hell I am and why should you trust me...my name is Nick Simon, I have been an active member of this forum for several years, though I do not post terribly too much. I am also confident that should anyone question my authenticity or trust-worthy-ness, there are at least a dozen well known and well respected members/climbers here who can verify my identity and character.
IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO PARTICIPATE THEN DO THIS:
email me at supertoposanta@gmail.com
give me your supertopo name, real name, shipping address and any other special considerations like gender/allergies/crazy phobias/SSN/mother maiden name/first pets name/first elementary school/etc... =)
EMAIL ME BY TUESDAY NIGHT (12/15 negotiable??what do you guys think?) if you wish to participate.
Secret Santa Name Distribution will go out on Wednesday (12/16).
Have your package in the mail by Friday (12/18).
Pray that 1 week is long enough for package delivery.
I HIGHLY recommend USPS flat rate boxes for your gifts. The flat rate boxes are Priority Mail so they normally take 2-3 days for delivery. Also, the flat rate boxes come in various sizes with proportionate fixed shipping costs regardless of weight. Small box is ~$6, Medium Box is ~$10, I don't know about the large box.
You do NOT have to respond to this post to participate. Maybe you are Royal or Jim or Chris or etc... and wish to remain anonymous. Fine. You DO have to email me to participate but otherwise participation is 100% anonymous unless you choose to divulge your identity to your recipient.
So what do you guys and gals think? I am in!

Maybe make it possible for the people to anonymously be in, in case they feel uncomfortable admitting such in the forum; they can contact you with their info without the forum confirmation. This is anonymous. You do NOT have to post in the official thread to be a part of the exchange, you just need send an email the special email I will create for the gift exchange. This email address will be posted on Monday, given sufficient interest. I am asking for at least 20 people to express interest in THIS thread just so I know it is worth the time for me to devote to it. The only people who would know that you are a part of the exchange are the gift sender and myself.
You may want to extend the sign up deadline, because so many people are traveling for the holiday. Maybe make it at least to next Friday. Lots of people won't have even checked the site by your current cut off time. I understand what you are saying and a lot of thought went into the timeline. If I extend the deadline though then there is much less time for people to figure out what they will send and less time for them to send it. If there is a larger consensus on extending the deadline then I have no problem with it. You just might end up with a late (after x-mas) gift.
If you can get me the info before 12/5 I am in. I leave for Belgium 12/8 If enough people are interested and we do go through with this, then I can get you a name and address before you leave.
So you in Locker and Pate?

I dropped him a line... if he doesn't want to do it I might run with it. Might be a bit late but we could always do it as a Secret New Year's Eve event. Who is the magical figure for New Years Eve? Not that baby with a cigar and sash across his chest... Baby Huey?!!!!
Let's give Strider a few days to respond and see where it stands.

I hate plastic, the figure is also Father Time, but we may want to get a more user friendly figure....someone in the climbing world. Let me know pronto so I can get my gift off. Mail takes time.....:DD lynnie

Lynne... Of course! Father Time. I guess my mind was stuck in film tonight since I watched a couple. Baby Huey was from "Who Framed Roger Rabbit."
This could be fun if we can pull it off in "TIME."

I'll vouch for Striders good intentions and integrity. I think I know where he's climbing, so we can find him and knock his head with the Bridwell hammer if it doesn't work out. :)
I'm in. But that's a lot of instructions. As long as I can thank my SS, I'm kewl with it.
Now, is a blow up sheep NSFW? probably just if it has velcro tabs with matching gloves.
I know I don't get to request, but I've always wanted
