I've been using a Soloist for both roped free and aid climbing and it works pretty well. I was thinking about getting a solo aid because it does not require the chest harness. Any soloists out there have any preferences?

Silent Partner and Solo Aid. Why bother with anything else.

silent partner by far the superior device. Still inherent problem like all devices but when it comes to feeding smoothly SP works really well. I just used the device for my one day solo of Swoop Gimp (TR under TR) and worked really well. I used to use the gri-gri but have had issues with it and many friends have as well.

big and bulky, but it works as designed. New, skinny, shiny rope necessary though.

yes new rope with the SP and works best when tying back up knots to not make them too long. The less weight that is on the SP the better. It really isn't that bulky, just like having a gri-gri or soloist tied to the front of you imo

Silent partner for leading.
Microscender for TR.

Mini trax is an okay compromise for TR. But, less fluid.

I am currently using the Soloist for lead and the Mini Traxion for TR. I borrowed a friend's Silent Partner and didn't really like it that much, but I probably didn't practice enough. The Soloist is smaller, and I find it easier to pull up the rope. Also, the Soloist allows the climber to sit back on overhead gear, where as the SP only locks with a fall. I saw a guy at Rumbling Bald this last Sunday doing a three pitch route using a Soloist and a Microascender. Haven't checked out the Microcender, but it seemed to feed really well on TR. Has anyone else used one of these?

I've soloed the cap and wc with a solo-aid, even took some whippers (not intentional)... Works okay. Probably not as well as the SP.

Used gri-gri and 2x cloves numerous times as well. Speed climbing, roped solo...

Used a soloist as well but the upsidedown fall thing always sketched me out.

I want to sell Kyle Copeland's Soloist with the proceeds going to L. Kor.

It has Kyle's stamp, and is in pretty good shape; can't have more than a few pitches on it.

Anybody interested? E-mail me.
