Sport Chalet is not particularly known for its focus on our sports
Funny thing- Sport Chalet came into existence in my home town, La Canada. Back in '72, they had about 1/4 of their entire retail space dedicated to mountaineering and technical climbing. They offered climbing instruction up at Horse Flats. When they expanded across the street, the new store featured a fiberglass climbing wall for testing shoes, boots, and gear. I used to love going in there and admiring all the gear. I guess the profit margin isn't high enough to justify keeping it a major focus..
Locker, thanks but they're too big for her.

I have several pairs of Aces and love all three generations. The affair didn't get off to a very good start as my first pair were badly misshaped during finishing and caused me to take several fully unexpected leader falls the first time that I took them out slabbin' at Squamish!
Mimi showing some color on Freewheelin...She's always holding a couple of pairs of Aces!

If Dingus' girls grow up to have shoe festishes, we'll know why.
Wasn't the first Ace the one that was black with yellow trim, then the second version black with green trim? At least those we had in Canada.

Skeptamistic,
I took my first, well part of my first climbing lesson at Sport Chalet La Canada back in 1979. I got grounded for something at home and only couldnt go to the rest of the classes. I ended up doing ok on my own anyway:)
I wound up working in the mountain shop in La Canada in 1986-87. I cant believe what a slide in climbing experience the guys and gals who work there have taken. I went in a few years ago to buy a new rope and asked about a dry rope and the sales guy told me it was for climbing in waterfalls. Eeeek!!!

What ever happened to my black and green Aces...*sigh*...I'd do a lot to get a pair back! I spoke to J.B. before he died (phone call) and asked what ever happened to the Aces. He told me that he designed them back when he worked for Boreal but now that he was with Acopa he designed another shoe with the Ace in mind called the "Spectres," referencing some sort of play on a theme or something like that, I don't quite remember.
Edit: Sorry, had to look it up, "Spectre" in reference to "revenge".

Still my favorite shoe. Only used on special occasions nowadays. Especially when I need max. confidence. I bought them in 1987? when Wilsons had a shop in Mammoth. Not sure how many resoles. Best move was putting Stealth on them from the first resole on. All I have to do is replace the laces every decade (after they rot away). I think what has kept them going is that I love them so much I don't let the soles and rands get totally destroyed before replacing them. BTW be glad you can't smell the pictures.
edit: I remember getting questioned on whether it was a good idea to wear lowtops :)
