hey there say.... not sure exactly, but from some of these strange "creature" shows, about critters, etc... it seems more folks get weird worms living in their bodies, from bad water, or raw fish, or raw pork... don't think they ever mentioned any trouble from larve in nuts, etc... ?
seems many folks in other countries eat this kind of larve... or some that are similar...
hhmm, have you ever noticed that WHEN you want to eat something odd by choice, it's fine and dandy... but when it's accidently been found to be in your swallow (and a tad too late, at that) it sure ain't no fun... :O

hey there mason108, say, here you go....
here is a worm/parasite link of interest...
http://www.shanti.com.au/body/parasites.htm
this quote came from the article... oh my:
If a person is very nervous at the full moon, they may have worms and or parasites, because worms get rampant during a full moon!
edit: either that, or they been hang-out at the local pub a mite too long... ;)

Right. Not until I read maggots did I feel nauseous. Aren't maggots pretty fat looking buggers? These guys were skinny but about the same length as buggers. I equate maggots with flies and dead meat. That is nauseating!
I haven't noticed beetle flies, but I do see these little drain flies occasionally. The bag was tied shut, but it wasn't a freezer bag.
This thread is making me gag, actually. Not enticing to read about worm guts spewing out the edges of your friends mouth on a dare. Really, that reminds me of college years and forcing freshmen to eat live goldfish to be initiated.
As long as I don't have to worry about being injected with some anti-parasitic or worry about having one burrow into my sinuses and eat my brain I guess I'm cool.
Thanks for the link, Neebee! More reason for me to be freakin' out! I think I'd rather be tripping on maggot acid.
Anders, MisterE, i was the guy there with dark black hair, a Filipina girlfriend (Joyce/Nala) and we were in the Orange/Gray tent over by Crowley and I was wearing a Kansas shirt one day. Climbed with Blue, Tommy and Ezra. I think we met briefly.
Ontheedgeandscared, you let us borrow your pint glass on Saturday night. Thanks again!

Ok I got the bag of walnuts and poured them into a pan and took pictures.
They aren't the best pics but give an idea. They're white, with little red heads and they seem to spin silk webs all over the nuts. Silkworms?? Weevils??
I got these nuts at the little Kabul Afghan market in Fremont, too. I wonder if they imported some random pests possibly.

Those are probably indian meal moth larvae. Google for it, you'll find a bunch of information. They're fairly common around the Bay Area. I highly recommend promptly disposing of that package and checking everything nearby. Once they've infested your pantry, it takes a bit of work to get rid of them.
