Raptor Closure at Hot Tuna.

A family of birds have taken up residence in a cave that is part of “Hot Tuna” please tread lightly. The four chicks are well along the way towards fledgling. Let’s give them a chance…. Please don’t mess with them.

Hey Guy, What kind of bird are they? Seems really vulnerable! Considering the amount of people that go by there, it's only a matter of time before
some a-hole kills them. That's even low enough for a cat to get them.

I can't tell from the pic, but I am going to guess that they are cliff swallows.

I don't think they were swallows.... there are lots of those zooming around, these look different, fatter .... anyway they are all gone now... flew the coop.

and last week these climbers were getting after the BIG STONE, well for Stoney the big WALL.

I think that any climber worth his salt has clipped up the Bolt Ladder at least once on the road to the Captain.

Way back in 2010 BooDawg wrote:

I've been wondering about a couple of wino characters that frequented SP during the early sixties: One's name was Phil Mesch (sp?); I can't remember the other's. They were actually pretty good climbers on their favorite routes, and they always drank cheap Ripple wine and bragged about how much better their climbing got as an afternoon and their drunkeness progressed. Have there been any postings about them? They always added a lot of color and laughter to our "more serious" approach to climbing. VERY entertaining! Anyone have any pix of them?

I was just trying to remember those guys names, then with a little help from my friends Google and BooDawg - Phil Mesch (sp?) - yes! Larry was maybe the other guy. I think Phil is the one who tried to jump from one branch to another in one of those big oaks down where we used to park. Of course he missed and ended up in what I remember as nearly a full body cast - but he was back the next day on the Ripple! Sadly have no photos.

Wow .... it hit about 110 yesterday and a bunch of young guns were out sending in the heat! It did get sort of nice around sunset... but still it was brutal.

Parts of Stoney caught fire about noon... but quick work by 96 stopped the fire before it could do any real damage.

Quick work by 96 stopped this one.

And TasDevil ..... Hi, nice to "meet you". I think the people you have been writing about, ripple drinkers, tree hoppers are still at Stoney..... Nothing changes.

Got any more photos of Stoney?

If so please post em up.... and if you get a chance come on out to SP and say hi.

Found..... one climbing shoe. It is very sad and misses it's mate.

If you know of a brokenhearted shoe please let me know so we can reconnect this couple.

Hey Boo,

I remember those Ripple drinkers very well. They used to slide down the Slant Rock head first while still holding the wine bottle. Also as I recall, one of them caught a lizard and stuck it in his mouth and stood there grinning with the tail sticking out.

Fond memories of 20 years of climbing at Stoney.

Heard reports of scattered rain around L.A. Can anyone confirm or deny the climbability of Stoney today? Thank you.

We got a little drizzle up here in santa clarita this morning, barely enough to wet the pavement. If stoney was the same I think it would be good to go this evening.

Guyman,

Not worth my salt, don't recall no bolt ladder back in the 60s - woulda clipped it if it existed. Did it?

I can confirm the bolt ladder on Jesus existed when I started there in 1984.

Also a hangerless ladder of 1/4 inch rusted bolts in the center of the wall left of "S" Crack going through the big pockets there. Never got around to climbing it even though I bought hangers for it. Started up on a hot day but backed off due to technical details. Never went back to it.
