Thanks for your gratuitous dialog! Honestly I haven't educated myself on the specifics about co2's. When I drive by LA I can see its effects, and know its not good. I don't need a PhD to understand that. I try to DO my part by working close to wher I live and only consuming 20 bucks worth of gas a week. Riding my bike every chance I get, and recycling everything.
There is a lot of need for talk and dialog to bring the masses up to speed. Since the money grubbing oil tycoons and politicians arent going to do it. And YOU and a few others are doing a FINE job! And that is work,I know. But I also wonder if there's other things you might be DOING to circumvent the circumstance that might be educational to us all? Do you know that Saudi Arabia has so many oil wells that they jus burn off the extra oil they can't barrel? Check out the Al-jazeere web sight sometime.
Thanks for your lessons! I'll work harder on my arguementive posts..
For now I'll go back to my "sticks" and "nails" and being the best "California Framer"

I've personally processed ash samples collected in Missouri that were erupted from the Yellowstone hot spot over 2 million years ago. I'm doing everything I can to prevent another massive eruption.
When I drive by LA I can see its effects
uh, no you can't. I believe what you are seeing is mostly NO2 and particulate matter.

I've personally processed ash samples collected in Missouri that were erupted from the Yellowstone hot spot over 2 million years ago. I'm doing everything I can to prevent another massive eruption.
Interesting side note, even the Yellowstone caldera supereruption at 2my probably released less CO2 than a single year of human activities (Gerlach 2011 in EOS). Our 35 gigatons each year is massive, it's hard to fathom the folks who blandly declare humans are tiny and couldn't be changing the planet.

Has anyone been checking the status of solar cycle 24. From what I've read the magnetic poles are about to flip, signaling the start of the decent to minimum. Every indication seems to point to the weakest cycle in a perhaps a century or more. This combined with the negative phase of the PDO and NAO should be quite a test of the counter hypothesis that CO2 is but a minor player in climate change.

Meanwhile ... the American Geophysical Union (about 61,000 members) has just revised its statement on climate change. Here's the title and first paragraph:
Human-induced climate change requires urgent action
Human activities are changing Earth’s climate. At the global level,atmospheric concentrations of carbon dioxide and other heat-trapping greenhouse gases have increased sharply since the Industrial Revolution. Fossil fuel burning dominates this increase. Human-caused increases in greenhouse gases are responsible for most of the observed global average surface warming of roughly 0.8°C (1.5°F) over the past 140 years. Because natural processes cannot quickly remove some of these gases (notably carbon dioxide) from the atmosphere, our past, present, and future emissions will influence the climate system for millennia.

What the hell is it with some people that they think they can just open their mouths and let the most outrageous, baseless and offensive claims fly out without any consequences?
It is called education,Bruce,or in this case the lack of one.There certainly is a consensus ,[on this thread ]of who has one and who has not.

You know, Ed if you could get past the shet covering the outside of the Johnson bone there was a marrow of mathematics. As you so amply point out, I am incapable of comprehending that language. I would have hoped that your scientific curiosity would have prompted you to at least sample it and to tell us if it was as rotten as the exterior.
On to the solutions for this imaginary and greatly hyped problem. Gill pointed out that if all anthropogenic emissions immediately ceased the impact would be virtually non existent. Bruce you expressed interest in policy before-lets here your solutions. And Ed why and how would your carbon tax benefit the population?

Don't you ever have moments when you think there might be new frontiers out there, new knowledge to be learned, more refined and detailed explanations of the natural physical world yet to be discovered? Boxing yourself in within this anthropogenic theory's confines could be a foolish mistake.
