We can argue much more effectively if the discussion doesn't descend into stupidity.

Your propensity for stupidity explains why you are one of the least effective "arguers" here.

Funny to drop in here after spending the day actually doing science. Our social constructionists have built a whole different reality, especially about science itself.

Is there a consensus? Pretty much all research scientists know there's a strong one on the reality of anthropogenic climate change. They know about this consensus because they listen and talk to their colleagues, they go to meetings, they read journals, they analyze their own data, and they understand how it all works. Most importantly they can think for themselves, and place great stock in that quality.

How 'bout if you're not a scientist? Well you could do what Rick does and read blogs by polemicists who you know will support your beliefs. Choose them right and you'll hear scores of reasons not to believe those scientists you don't want to believe.

A braver option, even for a nonscientist, might be to dip a toe in the water by checking out a few journals -- not articles highlighted by someone else who said they'll support what you want to believe; instead choose the most recent issue of any journal, hundreds to choose from, that you think might have a core interest in this topic. Scan the titles, check out a few abstracts, it's free.

For example, I've been looking at the International Journal of Climatology over the past month. Here's a page that lists all the articles lined up for forthcoming print issues. Scan it and judge for yourself, is there a consensus?

I'm actually shocked that people are still responding to the chuff with more than insults. Whatever, the rest of you get an A for effort... and an F for meaningful use of your time. I get straight F's.

So are all those scientific graphs proving a direct correlation with the burning of fossil fuels?
Or could it have something to do with the sun, or the earths core, or the spinning of the galaxy, etc. ?

Jus wondering, did you drive a car today?

In 78 I was 6 years old living in Lathrop Missouri...

I am doing my best to be a better person and stop inciting personal attacks/insults on the TACO because I feel better by not doing it...

all I was saying is don't put down our veterans regardless of political leanings...we have FREE SPEECH but that isn't a license to be MEAN...try being civil like ED said and see what responses you receive...do it for yourself---YOU WILL FEEL BETTER---at least I do!!!

The Chief fails to mention the followup study where the authors classified their position on climate change:

A follow-up study by the Skeptical Science team of over 12,000 peer-reviewed abstracts on the subjects of 'global warming' and 'global climate change' published between 1991 and 2011 found that of the papers taking a position on the cause of global warming, over 97% agreed that humans are causing it (Cook 2013). The scientific authors of the papers were also contacted and asked to rate their own papers, and again over 97% whose papers took a position on the cause said humans are causing global warming.

Results of authors rating their own paper:

By "bunch of fuking idiots" I mean anyone who would conclude there is not scientific consensus on AGW based on an abstract of a paper based on abstracts. That means you chuff... and forbes and climate depot and wattsupwiththat and thenewamerican and all the other bullshit sites you rely on for you idiotic talking points.

SAO PAULO (Reuters) - Last week's frosts in southern Brazil damaged nearly a fifth of the unharvested cane crop in the principal growing region, an event likely to cut sugar exports from the world's largest producer, agriculture research company Datagro said Wednesday.

Severe early morning frosts on July 24 and 25 in three of Brazil's top sugar-cane states devastated large areas, Datagro President Plinio Nastari told Reuters. The cold blight comes at the peak the crushing season when more than half of Brazil's expected record 590-million-tonne crop remains unharvested.

Although Nastari was unable to say how much mill-output will drop or reduce a global sugar glut that has pushed prices to three-year lows, he said 65 million metric tons, or 18 percent of the cane standing uncut in fields was damaged by the frost.
