Mississippi, Kansas, and Florida look promising. Check them out.
You should be safe from climbers there. :-)

When the student is ready, the teacher appears. So it is with your situation. When you're ready, the town will appear. Sound like you're on the right track and state of mind already. You'll know in your heart when you're "home."
All the best on your journey. Just make sure there's a net connection so we all can stay in touch!

Lynne,
I won't offer suggestions on a new landing spot for you, but I will offer you free moving boxes. I have three dozen medium-sized boxes from the professional moving company that relocated us in the last move. They are yours if you want them. I travel to SD several times a month for work and I'd be happy to drop them off on my next trip.

OK, I'm back from the car now.
There are some parameters you haven't mentioned - time, family, finances, work, etc. They may help define the search, or at least limit it. For example, I think most of your family is in southern California. You have a profession/business there, which can't easily be moved, but perhaps could be sold, or a manager hired.
Within that, my guess is that you need some Lynne-time. That is, you've been busy for the last many years being from a traditional family, going to school, getting married and having a husband, having children and then grandchildren, starting and running a business, and on and on. Suddenly a lot of those commitments no longer apply. The traditional wisdom is to take a little time, then explore new things. Travel. Read. Volunteer. Go to night school. Think about what you want to do for the next 30 years. Take up new hobbies or activities. Plan for retiring, or retire. Write a memoir or family history.
In the context of your family, climbing, and climber friends, there's a lot of options. You could spend the next year on the road, visiting and climbing and stuff, and simply consider options. Being in new environments and meeting new people can help with that.
Let me know if I can help. You can always visit BC, though it helps if you are part-amphibian at some times of the year. (Don't come next February, though.)

You all have pretty much nailed it. I must be pretty transparent for yo all to know me so well :D Mighty Hike, you summed it up pretty well. Except I want to write books for awhile instead of reading them.
For whatever reason....can't quite quantify it yet...coming home from Bachar's Memorial did something to make me serious about moving on....and soon. Gezzzz, I miss that Dude ! Know Tyrus and Paola must be going through some heavy stuff. lynne

Hello Lynne,
I went to a retirement class, and they said that if you think you found a place to move to, go there at the worst time of year. Be it snow, heat, or rain, and bugs, and rent, like three months, because than you will know if you can hang? Also, it might be the right place, but the wrong part of town, to shady, or open, or bad part etc. You can travel until you find a place. Keep your place now if you can afford it, because It costs a lot to move or put your stuff in storage, hope this helps?

Lynne, how about teaching Ebonics in like rural Costa Rica or something? Sun, sand, surf, limited internet, and tons of little shoeless grubbers looking for the correct way to say "what up Yo?.... jess messin wit yo!"

Ahhh, Russ .....you'll never know how Much I needed the laugh yo just gave me. Actually, I like the idea. It contains all my favorite things ! Zeriously :D
Edit: I have a great story about shoeless grubbers in San Blas when the riverboat guide went under a bridge with the 3 of us in his boat. He miscalculated the H2O height, knocked off the motor (and our heads if we had not literally hit the deck) and there we were sinking in the crocodile river. The shoeless grubbers helped and I rewarded them with most of the goodies in my backpack. Dan sure knew how to have fun !!!!!
Double Edit: I have been criticized for my use of yo on ST. But I just can't help it. The word is very therauptic for some weird reason. Can't splain......

It's obvious Lynne.
Get a van. Pack little. Go on a road trip and visit your ST family until you find the place that screams out to you as your new home. You could take a week or a decade to do this. What an opportunity. We'd all love to have you come and stay a while.

Gene, you may have tied up the package. I have a van. Prob is....yo can confirm with family and friends....I ALWAYS pack too much...sigh, it's an illness I think. I am the only one I know that packs a 4"x4" stove with little fuel pills on a cruise to the Caribbean.
Say, what if the ship sank and you were on a life boat. A little stove would come in handy. HEY, whenever there's a prob everyone runs to my room....or tent....or home. Smiles, Lynne
And thanks for the smiles today ST family! The last 24/7 have been hell. lynnie
