the food is good even giving it credit for being a gas station...

my picky eating SF living old friend Richie raved on about the pork chops one night, he thought they were much better then what he had a Chez Panisse a week prior...

I think it is a least a bit more interesting than a cheese burger, my opinion, of course.

The beer is sorta expensive there... last Monday on our way over to Mammoth Jaybro and I stopped off to look at #2 Diesel prices, check out the cost for IPA 395 and use the bathrooms... the fuel prices were too high, the 22 oz. bottle cost a dollar more than up in at the Tuolumne Meadows store (!) but the bathrooms were nice... one out of three is a good batting average (at least in baseball).

We stopped off in the Meadows on the way back and bought some beer, then got #2 Diesel in Oakdale on the way back (423 miles into the trip, could have made it back to Livermore except the diesel prices are cheaper in Oakdale)...

convince these hombres to drive up and we could put that mobile station right in the meadows...they'd have to fix their sign...

Sorry Russ thats about as mean as I get. As you can see I was still smiling as I was giving myself Epinephrine to keep me breathing. I'll try to say meaner things when my pills wear off.
Do have to give props to the Mono Cone though. If you like greasy burgers, them and Walker burger are as greasy as they come.

Russ Edit
I like the grass too!!

I love the music, I love the people and the owners, but the prices are outlandish and the fish tacos a farse. Not to mention the lobster ?? taquitos. $15 bucks for a bowl of gumbo? Give me a break.
(Tufa special man, just ask when you order a beer on tap.)
Besides it gets to be a zoo and that's not why I'm here.
I never even get a buzz off 1 mango marggy and 2 is too much sugar.

No soap in the wash bucket is right, bugs the crap outta me.
(Can't get the bug crap off the windows.)

Of course I'm biased, but I HAVE eaten the food at TPR for 6 years now, and still like it well enough to eat it every day. :)

It takes mind control not too eat too much pie or cake. It is that good.

I can't get out until the next big holiday.... working on the Manzeer for FatTrad for like two years.... got to finish at least that up before I go anywhere.

Done the anaphylaxis a couple times myself.... not a good time. Nut allergy of sorts, mostly to nuts on the chin but also cashews and sunflower seeds. Cashew Chicken is certain death.

Standing bet... if either of us are in the Walker Burger we'll flip to see who buys.

Speaking of music at the Mo-Mart, who books the music at that joint? I think my band needs a gig there.

Walker Burger's phoning it in these days. I much prefer that BBQ joint next door. Mountain View? Something like that.

Mono Cone = Good 'n Greezy. Top shelf.

Well, being within .50 cal range of the Mo-Mart and just over pistol range of Mono Cone right now, I’ve got to say…

Chef Boyardee Mini Ravioli last night for dinner! Yum, yum and it didn’t come with crappy music and a bunch of damn HIPPIES!!!!!!!!!

Haven’t set foot in either place yet this year… A Monorito sounds more like it!

Used to enjoy it there. Not so much anymore. Never was a fan of the mango margs. They tatste pretty crappy, IMO. The prices have gotten worse and worse and it's too crowded. I still stop in for a burger, occasionally, and it's good to run into people I haven't seen in a while there. Other than that, not so much.

Really, I think their reputation comes from weekend warrior types braving the "harshness" of a trip up Conness or Cathedral, whom are so incredibly worked by the time they get down, that *anything* would be the best meal they'd ever had. Kinda like that gallon of Hi-C and box of Twinkies my partner had in the car after our first wall. Or that McDonalds, near the Cairo airport after a couple of weeks of Egyptian food...

The food is so good at that dang mobil, well, I'm lickin' my chops now, here in berkeley thinkin of it. Only wish they'd made it a bit larger. Bit more of a footprint, and all. Shoot, mebbe they should expand upwards towards tioga with a drive-in as well. Bed bath and beyond would look nice next door. Heck, let's widen 120 so as we can get there faster from the west...

Place is a ungainly, multi-colored eyesore serving comfort food that only a snob would rank above the typical greasy spoon because of its presentation and the other people around them clucking and fluttering about “the food.” Shoulda been built down 395, if at all.

What's TPR? Got to expand my horizons next trip! I need to try the two burger joints mentioned ... I do like burgers (! too much unfortunately).

I like the buffalo meatloaf at Whoa Nelli ... but I like buffalo. A little pricey though and have to talk myself in to buying it, but not sure what one would expect? Is everywhere else in town a lot cheaper?
