Nice! When I did the East Buttress, my partner and I were midway through a ten hour workday in Yosemite, when he mentioned climbing it the next day. I said sure...Went home, packed in 30 mins, drove over the pass and got dinner and some music at the mobil, supplies in bishop, and got to the trailhead at Whitney portal at 2 am. Packed our racks, sleeping at 2:30, up at 5, on the trail at 5:30. The approach in your pictures would have been nice for us, but as Tioga Pass had just opened, it was still quite wintery, and the approach was knee to thigh deep snow, or ice. On route by 11 am, summit by 6. Mountaineers route looked to be WI3, so we weren't downclimbing it in rockshoes. Had to slog out in waist deep snow (hardened up as the night progressed) on the trail, back to the car at midnight. Drove to big pine and crashed out in the van for about a day. Car to car 18 hours, with 2.5 hours of sleep in 42 hours since getting up to go to work on my friday, looking forward to a nice mellow weekend!
The stuff memories are made of!
