I don't get it. Who plans the traffic control around here. Yesterday they had the intersection to the campgrounds (straight) Curry Village (right) and Yosemite Village (left) closed to traffic going straight. So I asked why. Answer: well the parking lot (probably meaning the trailhead parking across from Upper Pines) is full, so why let people go that direction.
Soooo, everyone going to the campgrounds had to make a right and go around thru the Curry Village parking area. Which means anyone wanting to get to the trailhead parking could also go around. And of course anyone wanting to get to campground reservations had to go completely around instead of straight to the Curry Village Parking. The back up in all directions was crazy. They didn't accomplish anything.
Not to mention, "the parking lot is full" ????? MOST of the time that they say this, there are spaces. They don't keep the signs updated. That day I saw 3 cars coming out of the trailhead parking right before I was told it was full. People are aways coming back from their walks thru the day. This happens all the time in all lots. The new Yosemite Visitor Center parking has shown "Full" at least 2 times I went past it in the morning when there wasn't anyone there.
I sure hope they are doing the right thing with the roundabout they are putting in.

The new proposed entrance fee of $70 could reduce casual visitor traffic. On the other hand, there would be no reason to NOT buy an annual pass for just $10 more.
http://www.sfgate.com/bayarea/article/Yosemite-vehicle-fees-could-go-up-to-70-under-12303336.php
Visitors to the Grand Canyon, Yosemite, Yellowstone, Zion and other national parks would be charged $70 per vehicle, up from the current fee of $30 for a weekly pass. At others, the hike is nearly triple, from $25 to $70.....
....The entrance fee proposal applies to Arches, Bryce Canyon, Canyonlands and Zion in Utah; Yosemite, Sequoia, Kings Canyon and Joshua Tree in California; Grand Teton and Yellowstone in Wyoming; Mount Rainier and Olympic in Washington; Shenandoah in Virginia; Acadia in Maine; Rocky Mountain in Colorado; and the Grand Canyon in Arizona.
Fees also would go up for pedestrians and motorcyclists. Annual passes for federal lands would be unchanged at $80.

WTF? strange pricing, but I am not complaining. Will suck when you forget your annual pass, and at 70 bucks a car I bet they could afford to man the gates 24/7

I'm so out of the loop. When did the admission price increase from $20?
My sis was in the Valley today to celebrate her birthday at the Ahwhatsic.
She said the lunch wasn't worth the price as the food wasn't that good.
She said traffic, especially on Northside Drive, was horrific. This is the "mellow time" to be there, too.
I'm just glad I had my experiences there in days gone by.
Entropy has set in, apparently.
I wholeheartedly agree with DMT, but it's not gonna happen.

Huh, I thought it was already $60. Immaterial to me though, as I get the annual regardless.

There are a lot of people visiting the park, and that's a good thing from a societal point of view, but there aren't too many people. There are too many vehicles though. What about creating two options: park outside the park and shuttle in for less than the fee to enter the park in your car? Say $5 per head to shuttle in or $50 per vehicle to drive in. Or $5 per head plus $50 per vehicle to drive in.
Express shuttles could stop only at high interest areas (get around the park quicker), other shuttles could stop at all areas. If desired, you could transfer from an express shuttle to a "local" shuttle. Color-code shuttles with stop locations.
A 50% reduction in vehicles would make a tremendous difference. Maybe even more people would visit!!
