Hey Tommy,

I've never met any of you guys except for Gene Malone last June. I did follow the story of your ascent right from the trip you two made to J-tree, then Tom Evans coverage of the ascent, and Musemans trip report. Awesome story all around. I remember one of Steve's most powerful sections being when the team was close to the parking lot, but running out of steam on the descent, and you hoisted Steve into the air for the final 'leg' of the trip to the car. Big moments!

Thanks for the great pics and heartwarming story.

Cheers,

Doug

Hey T2, awesome story. What a gift to give your buddy. You guys epitomize the spirit of climbing, the experience of the wall and the soul of the climbing community.

I'm a hack writer with no formal training, but would love to help shape up some of the writing for publication for you. Its no easy thing to put your writing on the table for others to critique, but it can be a rich experience having an "editor" work with you to strengthen some parts and make your ideas flow a bit better. There are much stronger writers than myself on this forum, but if you want a hand, let me know. E-mail me and we can crank it out. I have no resume, but check out my recent TR of Half Dome In a Day to see if you want me anywhere near your work.

See you around.

Tommy, i got chills reading this. Witnessing this was life changing (i was the kid who climbed NA wall while you were on the zod, and friend of christiaans) the style, cleanliness, and efficiency of your accent really shows how you were able to pull this off without a hitch. cheers to all 3 of you.

and Gene, glad to hear your on the road of recovery!

Cheers to all involved here!

1. Lucky to have a group of friends like these fellas.
2. Further proof for me that humanity might not be heading in the wrong direction. (outside the climbing community, I can't think of a similar endeavor undertaken with the trust and commitment needed for this type of activity)
3. Further proof of the type of compassion, inner-strength, and determination I've found prevalent in the climbing community.

Thank you for the post. This is inspiring, to say the least.

Great ascent and post. I'd have feared the descent as well. From the cozyness of this chair, I'd be tempted to rap the route rather than Hike down, but I know I'd never think that high on El Cap.

Peace

Yea chris that chaps are designed by Mark. They are custom fit and sewn by Yates. Mark played an intrical part in our success.

Thanks for the warm response everyone.

As usual, I'm a little late in reading this post. For the most part, I would like to thank my bros. Tommy and Dave for allowing me such a huge gift. Getting to pretend to be a climber again was a dream come true. I soaked in all I could from the panoramic views while juggin' that fixed line to cocktails and the disco ball lighting up the wall at night. Sitting there on the port-a-ledge laughing with my two buddies without a care in the world...Many others also stepped up to make this happen. I still can't believe how things came together so well. It brings a tear of joy to my eye eveytime i think about my friends helping me in such a huge way. Thank you all very much. I love you guys!

Next is a kayak trip in April...130 mile do round Angel Island on the Sea of Cortes. Tommy, Dave and Ammon it would be great if you could come along on this adventure, but if you can't maybe I could sucker you in on another climb in Zion...Moonlight Buttress! Perhaps Tommy has forgotten how heavy my sorry ass is?
