Wonder how long before police & FBI would show up if this was an Obama Effigy.
Neighbors examine a Halloween themed effigy of Republican vice presidential
candidate Sarah Palin decorates a house Monday, Oct27,08, in West Hollywood, CA.
It has generated several complaints because the mannequin, dressed in Palin's
trademark updo, glasses and a red business suit, is hanging by the neck from a noose.

Oh my ! Generated Complaints. Whieeew.

Remember Bob D's 'Race is not an issue Thread'
Wonder if its White Folk what hung up this here decoration.
West Hollywood ! Only two things come from West Hollywood.

Very poor taste.

But you are ignoring the racist history and symbolism behind lynchings of black people in the south.

Nice try though!

But ignoring America's racist history is practically a Republican trademark.

Funny klinefelter, but a little earlier this morning I was thinking the same thing.

Agreed. This is pretty lame. I think McCain on fire coming out of the chimney is fine, but hanging people (in effigy and otherwise) has a pretty shameful history.

I also agree that if it had been an effigy of Obama instead of Palin, the homeowners would likely have been arrested for a hate crime.

Now, it's NOT THE SAME THING, because Palin isn't black, and so far as I'm aware, there's no significant history of lynching of white women in this country. But still over the line, I think.

I just don't understand why someone would want to lynch Tina Fey.

Are the home owners black?

Absolutely no justification for it. If it were a dummy of Obama hanging there, the police would be out in force and it would be considered a hate crime; and that would be the correct response. Too bad little will be done about it here. On the other hand, now that it's become broad public knowledge, there might well be some regrets on the part of those that put it up.

Wow, I mostly agree, except that I'm not sure it would be considered a hate crime since there hasn't been a crime. But the Secret Service might be interested.

Not racist, just bad, bad taste.

Although, in the 1800's this sort of thing and worse was common in political races.

Palin does not need to be hung, she needs to be forced to watch Jimmy Carter's malaise speech over and over for about 48 hours, LOL.

Yeah, it's tasteless.

But only an idiot would think this is a double standard. Check out some US history from the last 50 years and you'll find that hangings, nooses, and such have a certain connotation.

Double standard- You can abuse effigies of politicians once they are elected but as candidates it's bad taste.

Just because something isn't "racist" doesn't make it OK. People should back off the hate on both sides.

Hanging Palin in effigy is not appropriate, even on Halloweeen. The Secret Service should pay them a visit. I say this as someone who will does not think she is qualified and will vote against her.

Now if it was Bush and Cheney up there.....

Generally, one has to be at least accused of a crime for burning and/or hanging in effigy to be appropriate.

The Palin hanging in effigy is not only in poor taste but shows a low intelligence level of those responsible. They've earned their dossier with the FBI, nonetheless.
