Shut the f#ck up Lois. You have no idea what you are talking about. This is a climbers forum. Sure we talk about things other then climbing and yes, some of those things are important. But sometimes it gets out of hand. Lots of climbers don't post that much and so climbing threads die quickly unless people nurture them. Like Russ said, genius takes time and so threads need time to be on the front page. When threads fall off the front page too quickly because some folks don't know how to control their urge to post a new thread instead of seeing if their post fits into an existing thread, then we all lose because people get discouraged.

So shut the f@ck up about "just post some interesting climbing stuff" and everything will be okay. It doesn't work that way.

Most folks here want to attract more climbers, not less. Things have been out of hand lately. I wish we could accept the mix of politics and other sports and climbing, I like that mix, but I don't like it when things go crazy like after Palin was chosen for VP. Too many threads were started when one or two would have sufficed.

.......................

I also wish we had an archive section for trip reports. I want them to be on the front page like they have been, but also archived in a special section just for trip reports. Some folks have told me that they have stopped posting trip reports here because they are too difficult for their friends and family to find once they drop off the front page.

Ah yes, democracy.

Isn't it great that everyone gets to say their say?

Too bad so little gets resolved,..

Let's be 21st century adults (fun having adults) and police ourselves. It wasn't just Munge, but the debate threads and the Palin threads. So we all have room to have important subjects on or near the front page, let's try to consolidate our topics rather than just spray.

I know it's fun to press the new topic button and bust onto the scene but it's not working for us.

Karl and Werner hit the nail on the head. It's the redundancy of political threads that drive the climbing threads off the front page, not the lack of interest in climbing. Frankly, one presidential election thread would do just fine; we could even break the rap bolting single-thread record!

I suppose we should also try to avoid the need to have the last word, too, but that's not so easy. I've been trying to limit repeating myself (which is why I stopped posting on your banking thread, Karl), but at my age, I tend to forget what I said.

Hi Coz

Where do you like to draw the line between real life and make believe. I see and/or climb with a lot of these guys all the time. In any case, having a sense of respect in our interactions here. (even a disrepectful respect which we have seen a lot of) stands us in a good way when we have a real disagreement to hammer out.

(sorry about that hammer word)

any way, you know what Palin says, "Drill baby drill!"

I think the internet can be a valuable medium for networking and communication if we let it be. there are many examples of people getting real help and support via supertopo

Peace

Back from the dead ....

Yeah we're all just lifeless dead fuks here.

Now, how the hell would a dead person even be able to respond here?

And rules? There's no escape, the prisoner is always under the wardens rule.

Hey Coz, see yea at the base ........

I don't want to put rules on the forum. Rules aren't required when respect is maintained. We climbers have been struggling with respect versus rules between very different sets of values for a long time. We still have very few laws governing us and I think that's a good thing.

Still, if too many people piss on the campfire when it's still cold out, the rest of the partiers might say "Put it back in your pants dudes!"

People behind nameless avatars needlessly bashing and cussing people out is so 2001. I've always been a big karl fan (Bralich, not the burgers), he's super respectful. I can dig that.

Kinda ugly, tho. I guess thats OK.

I don't understand why everyone is so against using technology to assist in solving these problems.

Because they don't understand the technology.

Here's an example: someone clicks Post Topic, and there's a choice of Climbing Related or Not Climbing Related. The poster picks one.

On the front page, visitors can choose to see All Topics, Climbing Topics, or Off Topic.

Of course you could expand on this (Trip Report, Gear Review, Spray) but I wouldn't want to frighten the luddites.

That's right, "classic mode"

Technology?

Now we've all seen what happens when grown children start playing with atoms trying to split them.
