Monster Tower bump. Hope that one is in his show.

Thanks for the update, Ron. Great to hear Layton fared well.

All kinds of problems still to be surmounted.
The good news is that Neptune's has committed to handle the book signing. There will be some limitations though; copies of Beyond The Vertical only with a minimum donation of $50/book. The books will have to be dropped off, and then picked up with proper ID at a later date (dates still to be determined).
Do NOT call Neptune's. The specifics will be net posted.

As for the video of the show, I'm not counting my chickens till the footage is in the can. There will be an attempt. With certain stipulations the people at Macky have agreed, but the most important "record" there is the audio recording as the images can be better reproduced from a direct digital source.
But this has led to a fantastic idea courtesy of Kevin Donald.
Why not have both a "live" and "studio" version of the show???
The studio version could even be extended to include more material than the constraints of a live show allow.

I'm also working on ancillary interview vignettes with noted climbers who give their take on the Kor influence.

Nobody has refused! Its a testament to what a stand up guy Layton has always been.

This has been a rewarding if frenetic creative process, but any more good ideas are welcome.

Does this mean he will only sign copies of BTV?
(works for me personally, but know other people who mentioned bringing other books)

Still trying to decide if bringing the book along for signing is something I want to risk.

If you booked an airplane ticket and are flying in for the show from, a few states away, what then? Don't mind the payment-for-signing arrangement at all, and was planning to contribute more than the minimum, but unless I can get my book back to babysit home with me when I fly back at the end of the weekend, I don't think I'm risking it. Realize everyone has limitations here, and that's cool. Just tossing some thoughts out.

Good points. They will be addressed (waiting to hear back from that co-ordinator.

But yes, Beyond The Vertical only. This was an acceptable compromise. The guy is going to be busy.

Ron,

Thanks for the update.

I've had a couple people contact me about how they could make a donation if they aren't attending the event. Also if they are will there be an opportunity to donate. The other question is whether a non profit organization could be set up to help Layton and allow people to contribute.

Cheers

My idea for a FOLK fund fell flat with the AAC but I wonder if they would accept donations for the Kor show.

As I said Neptunes is handling the book signing separate from the show all out of the goodness of their hearts.
They might too.

Bump to end the politics-free first forum page with Layton Kor on top.

Good morning America. Sept 30 was a great day, enjoy it! In an hour and a half I'll be experiencing October - without the fall or leaves or... feel free to post more TRs!

Has an account been set up with a bank to accept monies for Layton from those of us who can't make it to Boulder? Also, can a book be mailed to Neptune for signing with return postage include (i.e., shipping Priority Mail with a return Priority Mailer included)?

Thanks Layton for Being!

As it is I am flying in Thursday for Layton's show and going to the Great American Beer Festival on Saturday afternoon. So any of you dirt bags like me coming in from out of town interested in climbing on Friday?

Also more than willing to shuttle some folks up to Boulder from the airport if you arrive by 3pm on Thursday. Just send me a note and plan to at the Budget fast break location by no later than 3:30pm (ie ride the shuttle to the car lot).

Just left Layton's place this morning.

Here is the word on donation.
Layton does not wish to be compensated without giving something in return. For the price of a ticket he gives a show and with the book signing he adds value, but beyond that he wishes nothing.

Now, I'm no fool. The People's Republic of Boulder is likely the biggest show on earth for Layton Kor. Its a home base where you not only can't swing a dead cat without hitting a climber, but also can't find a climber who hasn't done his routes.
Further afield doing shows would inevitably yield diminishing returns so the video seems the best way to successfully market Layton's offering.

I shot a terrific pre-show interview yesterday and have gotten OKs from everyone else I've asked for supporting interviews including Largo, Donini, Mike Kennedy, and a couple of guys named Lowe.

With the instant sellout the show will keep the wolves from the door, but with just a little luck the video will keep them away for good.

Hi Ron,
Thanks again for all your efforts on Layton's and the climbing community's behalf.
It is so very much like Layton to shun remunerations not tied to performance. However any one who might wish to do so, could help your team, and Layton with the production expenses which will undoubtedly be incurred during the making of any live and/or studio versions of the video slideshow.
As you know, it is the "seed" funding that is so very important in getting these cinematic projects off-the-ground. Perhaps a minimum donation to a "Kor Video Fund" could be rewarded with a finished DVD? Just a suggestion.
Best,
KD

We dun need no steenkeeng seed money!

(yet)

But we already have 5 cameras (3 hi def), 4 camera men, good footage in the can with a virtual lock on more, a fat reptilian mascot to appear on our logo, and the power of Kor.

Yeah, I know.
He inspired ME. That's part of why I'm making this effort.
I was gonna try a virgin tower this weekend, but put it on hold to work on this. (Looks like its going to storm anyway, so I might just go upcanyon to look at the waterfalls.)

You just have to understand (and hopefully respect) his father's dutch work ethic culture in which he grew up. Self-respect trumps charity no matter how well meant.
